View Full Version : Soap Suds separating from water - Hard water or old soap?

Not sure if it has just started happening or I just started to notice it. I will assume it's been doing this since I've moved into the new house?

It looks like the soap suds separate from the water when washing my truck. The wash bucket fills with a lot of suds but when I bring my brush full of suds from the wash bucket the soap seems to either separate from the water or sort of just disappear as I brush the truck.

My first thought is hard water or the soap is old? I don't have the normal hard water problems in the house. The gallon is a couple of years old since I only use about an ounce each wash.

Any ideas?

What kind of soap is it? You should try with some of the water from inside the house, or even a couple gallons of bottled water to see if it still happens.

Do you have a water softener in the house? The outside water faucets are piped in before the softener (unless you have a special car wash faucet like some of us :D ) so that water will be hard.

I doubt there is anything wrong with the soap. Some soaps have poor bacterial stability and will grow stuff in them (cloudy grey stringy gunk) but that never seems to affect the function of the soap, it's just gross.

Adams soap.
No softner in the house.
I have a water line in the garage just for washing the truck.

The bottled water idea sounds like a good test. I will have yo pick sotume up for tge nect warm day andctry it.

Also the soap looks clean, no gunk or discoloring.
