View Full Version : Why I am ditching my favorite sealant (Polymer Net Shield) for CQuartz UK. Is PNS flawed, or is it just me?

I am a detailing nut, and I am very serious about keeping my cars paint scratch and swirl free.

My issue has always been that my car is parked outside 24/7 therefore waxes are not really going to protect me or last (I also think wax is useless for everyday cars, shine comes from proper prep), because of this I looked into sealants. I found Sonax Polymer Net Shield and loved it, but unfortunately it seems like fallout from parking underneath a tree just really kills its beading and sheeting properties. Usually a wash brings it back, but recently that hasn't been happening, I'm not sure if it has to do with the fact that I foam now and use Honey Dew or not, but either way its just not working out. I applied PNS to surgically clean paint a little less than a month ago, fast forward to last week, heavy rain, lots of leave failing, when I washed the car the hood barely had any beading properties left.

I need my paint to be able to bead up nicely so that my washes and specifically drying the car is easier, I needed something that wouldn't go away with some bad fallout.

In comes GTechniq EXO V2, a paint protection coating that should last the duration of my lease...

That was a no go, after attempting to apply it on my trunk I kept getting hazing that I could not prevent, even got the GTechniq USA reps involved and they were just not sure what the issue was.

Here comes the next product, Car Pro's CQuartz UK. The UK version is similar to the classic CQuartz but its application process is more forgiving in colder temperatures.

I went ahead and clayed, TRIX'd, compounded, and polished my hood to get started:

After removing all oil's using Car Pro Eraser and IPA I went ahead to apply the coating. For whatever reason it went on my hood incredibly easy and buffed off properly with no streaking or hazing. The drivers side of the car not so much.... My only theory on this is because that side of the car was facing the sun and even though the panel wasn't really hot the sun was causing the coating to flash too quickly before it was actually adhered to the paint.

Either way, at the end of the day, it was applied and with no streaking that I could find either by sunlight or LED flashlight.

The reflections really are amazing:

Here is that same first picture with some editing:

But as you can see here, even with no editing, the paint looks amazing:

Just a question:

If you just clayed, polished, and sealed a few months ago, why do you need to compound and polish again?

Obviously you had enough fallout to need to clay again (assuming you actually checked to clay instead of just doing it) so UK will still gather this contamination albeit at a slower and less bead-impacting pace - but it will.

It just makes me wonder if your washing technique has anything to do with the durability of PNS. I doubt it, but gig shouldn't need to compound within a few months. Honestly, I never need to use compound on my car except for a select few areas once every year or two.

Are/were u boosting the SPNS with anything after washes?....I had a couple rainy days that the car beaded up very well and performed well, but after a day or two when the storm passed and i went to wash the car the beading was very lackadaisical and I thought it had already gave out.... So I just continued washing and at the end went over the car with d156 as my touch up for any water spots and to BOOST the SPNS as I've read its supposed to help it last and bring it back to life....well low and behold on my next wash it was beading and sheeting like crazy

Here's a little video I made from washing it the other day

Polish Angel Viking Coat applied a month ago, picture taken last week, car stays outside and had not been washed since application.

To clarify I only spot compounded some areas where a branch feel and left of some scratching. I said I did all that because I didn't want anyone getting all: "oh well you didn't fully clean the paint blah blah and decon blah blah blah"

I have not been boosting it because I do not feel that I should have to. It used to work much better for me I feel like, usually a wash would bring it all back, but this seems to not be the cast anymore.

I just want it to last the advertised amount of time.

PNS is a PITA to apply/remove. Too finicky.

How many coats?

•You expected PNS to last 6 months (as advertised),
although the vehicle was parked in an area that is
well known to loosen the gates of contaminates upon
all objects that frequent therein. And with the
minimum of aftercare: washing & drying.
-Alas and Alack (according to your narrative):
It---PNS---didn't!

•So now, even though the vehicle is CQUK-coated...
-Can you really expect it to last its full
advertised life-span of 2 years, especially if
the vehicle is still going to be subjected to the
same contaminates, as well as the same aftercare?

What is so hard about removing PNS? I ask b/c I'm planning on using PNS (with Brilliant Shine Detailer to boost) for winter protection and then blackfire/natty's in summer.

I think he might e referring to the buff off after you've applied it and spread over the panel

What exactly about my aftercare am I doing wrong?

I don't need it to last 6 months, even half would be acceptable, but 1 month doesn't cut it for me.

No idea whats he's talking about, PNS is super easy to apply in my opinion.
