Has anyone ever cut down pads to a smaller size?
Just asking as my boss 6.5 pads have seperated due to me using speed 6 when i literally used my polisher for my very first two detail jobs back last spring.

Figured cutting them down to either a 4in or 3in to save them and use them for the Rupes Mini
Thoughts?

Good idea. Almost like recycling them

Interested in this if someone knows how to cut them down.

I've done this a few times with 4' cyclo pads that were still good but became seperated. Basically traced a 3' pad onto 4' and used a razor blade and cut it out. Still works great on the GG mini. It's not a long term but you do get a few more details out of the pad.

I've cut some down with razor knives before. They didn't look very pretty but got the job done. A "hot knife" might be able to cut them more cleanly. Maybe someone with one of those who has used it on an old pad can chime in.

Try heating a metal cookie cutter the size desired with a small torch, melting through the foam cleanly.

I was planning on trying it with my wicked laser pointer

Never thought of heating them up. Great idea!

Bet you they shipped that laser overnight...

Took me about 6 months to get my nano.

Careful...
What are the foam pads, that are going
to be "re-sized", manufactured from?

Exposing some types of foams to heat(ed)
sources/elevated temperatures...can cause
them to melt/burn...creating toxic gases,
dense smoke, and other hazardous decomposites;
as well as: "cut"-edges that have become hardened.

Most foam is cut with water jets.
