Now that I'm going to start detailing my wife's car I have a paint question. The car is a Fire Red (kind of a bright burgundy) 99 Mustang the paint is in bad shape due to drive through car washes. I noticed in some spots like the rear spoiler the paint looks a little pink. Is the paint faded in those spots or is that oxidation? I used some over the counter compound by hand but it didn't get any better.

It's hard to say for sure without a picture but it sounds like oxidation. The pigments in red paint are the most susceptable to oxidation. A paint cleaner like Klasse All in One, Pinnacle Paintwork cleanser, Poorboy's Pro Polish would all take care of oxidation, if that were the case.

Oxidation sits ontop of the paint so a paint cleaner will remove that and bring you back to the clear coat. If for some reason what you are seeing is below the clear coat, nothing can be done, except for a repaint.
