2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee ~ Time for a Pressure Washer

Friend of a customer saw my work on Facebook and wanted to get her Jeep done after a road trip from VA to NM.

We scheduled the day and were Facebook messaging the day before the detail. She asks me if I use equipment that makes noise because her husband works nights and needs to sleep all day. Well, that changed things a bit, but I told her I could still do a decent job.

I worked nights for a year so I was very conscious about being quite. I even filled all the buckets as far away from the house as I could.

This was my first detail where I could have really used a pressure washer. I’ve had other details where I felt a pressure washer would help with wheels/tires, but haven’t wanted one for vehicle paint. My foam gun has been quite adequate for the vehicles I’ve done thus far.

When I arrived the Jeep wasn’t quite as bad as I thought it would be as the customer kept telling me how dirty it was. That stated, it had some caked on/dried dirt from some off roading in New Mexico. The wheel wells wouldn’t have been such a pain if they weren’t felt lined or whatever the material is they use on luxury vehicles.

The wheels/wheel wells/tires took about 90 minutes requiring huge amounts of strong water flow and repeated APC and soft brush scrubbing applications. I worked on the wheels/tires/wheel wells and I let the vehicle soak in a combo of soap and APC. I rinsed with water then sprayed the bottom dirty panels again with APC to further reduce the dirt prior to manual cleaning. I soaked the vehicle in foam and APC twice, which removed the majority of the caked on dirt.

I did a thorough hand wash and used my Nanoskin Medium mitt, which got the paint smooth as glass. I love that color. I had a Honda Accord with a similar Graphite Pearl metallic color.

What’s funny was the customer came out right after I was done drying the Jeep. She was thrilled! Then I told her I didn’t even wax it yet. LOL. I intended to use WGDGPS but rain was likely as it was cloudy and the forecast called for it.

I used Collinite 845 instead and I believe it was a good choice for this application.

Wash – 3D Pink Soap 3D / APC 4:1/ Safe Scrub Bug & Tar Pad / Dry Me a River Towel / Wash Mitts
Wheels / Tires / Wheel Wells – 3D APC 1:4 / Speed Master Wheel Brush /Opti-Bond Tire Gel
Paint – / Nanoskin Medium Mitt / Porter Cable 7424XP / LC Black Flat / Collinite 845
Interior 3D APC 1:10 / RIDGID WD1270 / Lexol Leather Cleaner / Wolfgang Leather Conditioner / CarPro PERL
Glass – Megs D120 Glass Cleaner Concentrate / Waffle Weave Glass Towel

Total Time: 8hrs

Here is her Facebook review:
“I brought lots of New Mexico dirt home on my Jeep. Despite it being a Jeep and having the ability to go off-road, it is a luxury car since it is the Grand Cherokee Summit. Dean spent many hours making it look like the luxury vehicle that it really is. I think it was better than brand new. Really amazing job, Dean. It's worth the cost considering the level of detail he put into it.”

Beautiful work Dean. That was pretty filthy. I bet it was a paint to clean the wells without a pressure washer.

Thanks for sharing.
