Hello,
How do I remove scratch and swirl on a water based paint. I already used pinnacle xmt heavy duty swirl remover and also meguiars polishing compound. None is working. Any idea.

Are you working by hand or machine? Pads or microfiber towel?

What type of vehicle is it? Are you using 6" or 5" pads?

The orange may not be aggressive enough if you are working on harder paint and trying to remove deeper swirls and scratches. Also realize that a polisher will take a long time to remove random isolated deep scratches. It is worth reviewing Mike's troubleshooting thread.

Slow arms speed, keep pad rotating, medium to heavy pressure, multiple passes.

Be sure to put up a tape line so you can clearly see before and after results and determine if you are removing defects and if you are putting new ones in with your methods.

It's a car sedan basically a kia forte. The scratch are gone but it's the swirl that stay. Any specific product I can use.

Can you describe the process and steps you are doing?

For instance,

1) xmt 5" lake county orange pad
2) wiped with microfibe
3) scratches gone but swirls still evident or now I have swirls
4) ultimate polishing compound 5" white pad
5) wiped with microfiber
6) swirls worse
7) kicked cat
8) rubbed cat on car
9) wiped blood from car with microfiber
10) scratches and claw marks on car

You get the drift. ;)

How much pressure did you use?
What was your arm speed? (How fast were you moving the machine across the paint?)
How much product did you use?
How often did you clean your pad(s)?

I perform 5 section pass with polisher speed set to 5. I apply the product on the pad and apply it evenly.

The scratch are gone but it's the swirl that stay.

Typically swirls will be removed but the deeper scratches will remain.

Maybe the paint is soft and you are seeing marring or a compound haze. Not sure which Meguiar's product you are using but the Pinnacle one is fairly aggressive.

Try a lighter polish if you have one.

How should the deeper scratch be removed. I used meguiars ultimate compound to remove the swirl and it's gone
