I just had a client drop off his BMW for me to detail tomorrow. The paint is full of swirls. This is my first experience with BMW paint and was hoping some kind folks could offer some input on how BMW paint behaves. I'm going to start out with the least aggressive method and work my way up from there depending on the results yielded. Supplies list includes:

- Porter Cable 7424XP
- LC Foam Pads "Yellow/Orange/White/Blue/Black"
- LC MF Pads
- HD Speed
- HD Adapt
- GG Complete Compound
- Megs Ultimate Compound
- CG Sealant
- CG Butter Wax

Sneak Peek....

Ill take a bunch of before and after pics and will share tomorrow.

I've corrected a bunch of BMWs, from my experience the paint can be either hard or extremely hard. Nice thing about the paint is you can cut and almost leave LSP ready. I cut with MF pads, d300, 105 or FG400. I had a new X5M that was hard as diamonds. Most 3 series I have done, MF & D300 work just fine. I did an E46 M3 once with LC Orange/ FG400 followed by LC white/ sf4000. Never used HD products but assume it would get the job done just as well

Stick with what you have, try HD Adapt with Orange pad on test spot, and Speed with Orange pad test spot side by side and see how they do.

I work almost exclusively on BMW's and I can tell you that their non metallic paints are usually on the softer side, which, if this is Alpine White like I think it is, means that this should have relatively soft clear. I've had good results using M105 then Menzerna SF4500 as a finishing polish. 205 has never, ever, finished down well on BMW paint to me. Thats why I am now in love with Menzerna polishes.

As an M3 owner I've had great results with an m105/205 combo. I finished up with menzerna wax and wdgps 3.0 for the finish you see in the photo. I have around 10 consistent BMW clients and can attest that non metallics tend to be softer and metallics such as mine are hard as nails.

I have had the same results with M205 on BMW paint. Especially my jet black pair of BMW's.

I switched over to Menzerna polishes and never looked back.

I agree with that about 205 even on metallic bmws. But I've never been a huge 205 fan anyway. Why finish with anything other than sf4500 honestly?! Can't beat it!
