So I have had my new jetta for a week and have two small rock chips (half the size of a pencil eraser). They are right in the middle of the hood and my heart sank...... Do I try to get them fixed or is this just part of ownership and just let it be?

It's still possible to consider a clear bra/paint protection film (PPF).

As far as the touchup, part of that depends on whether the chip is down to the primer or the metal, how the car is cared for/stored, and what kind of environment you live in.

If it's down to the metal it's going to have to be touched up or it will rust. If it's only down to the primer, you keep the car "waxed", and you don't live in a coastal area or where they use a lot of salt on the roads, you may be able to leave the chip for a long time without any rusting etc.

Chips of course will usually be more noticeable on darker colored cars, so that also plays into whether you want to touch it up. You might want to look into this:

And of course, you're going to get more chips, it's kind of unavoidable if you drive the car. Best thing is to get PPF on the most vulnerable/likely areas.
