Anybody have any experience with binaural beats? My cousin sparked my interest, I have heard nothing of it before. Supposedly, you listen to the "beats" with headphones and you can become relaxed, energized, etc depending on what it's made for. There's even ones out there that give you effects of drugs, alcohol, overdose of certain medicines, etc.

Binaural beats or [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Binaural"]binaural (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Binaural_beats#searchInput) tones are auditory (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Auditory) processing artifacts, that is apparent sounds, the perception (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Perception) of which arises in the brain independent of physical stimuli (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Stimulus_%28physiology%29). This effect was discovered in 1839 by Heinrich Wilhelm Dove (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Heinrich_Wilhelm_Dove).
In nature, two sounds that are similar but slightly shifted in frequency (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Frequency) will beat (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Beat_%28acoustics%29) to produce two new frequencies which are the sum (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Sum) and the difference (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Subtraction) of the original two sounds. For example, a 400 Hz (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Hertz) tone and a 410 Hz tone will form a ~405 Hz tone pulsating 10 times per second.
The brain produces a similar phenomenon internally, resulting in low-frequency pulsations in the loudness (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Loudness) of a perceived sound when two tones at slightly different frequencies are presented separately, one to each of a subject's ears, using stereo headphones (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Headphones). A beating tone will be perceived, as if the two tones mixed naturally, out of the brain. The frequency of the tones must be below about 1,000 to 1,500 hertz (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Hertz) for the beating to be heard. The difference between the two frequencies must be small (below about 30 Hz) for the effect to occur; otherwise the two tones will be heard separately and no beat will be perceived.
Interest in binaural beats can be classified into two categories. First, they are of interest to neurophysiologists (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Neurophysiologist) investigating the sense of hearing (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Hearing_%28sense%29). Second, some protoscientists (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Protoscience) believe that binaural beats may influence the brain in more subtle ways through the entrainment (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Entrainment) of brainwaves (http://en.wikipedia.org/####/Electroencephalography) and can be used to produce relaxation and other health benefits.

OR, you can just crank up the rock and roll, and headbang!

Haha that's exactly where I read the definition. I wish it was more "music like", it's just a bunch of tones, pulses, n other stuff like that.
