The B pillars on my 15 yr old Acura seem to have either a clearcoat failure or whatever glossy coating that covered them has peeled or fallen off. It is quite extensive and on both sides.

No way I am getting this painted, so wondering about other options. I have considered vinyl trim tape like this (http://shadowlinetrim.com/shadowlinevinyls.html).

Anyone have experience with a repair like this?

Have you tried polishing that to see what would happen? (I'm guessing that will make it worse). The wrap seems like a good idea since many cars have wrap on those pillars to begin with (including some Acuras).

I haven't tried polishing, though from its appearance it seems that the shiny bits are what is wearing away. I think I will try a tiny test spot, since the vinyl is probably what would be best anyway.

anyone with experience with vinyl? it is a DIY type of thing?

Just a suggestion.

You may be able to buy these new from the dealer.

They are usually attached with double sided tape from the factory. The new ones will come with the double sided tape as well.

I changed those recently on a S Class from my father in law.

Your best bet is to just replace them, as spending the time/money on attempting to repair them, will be useless in the long run. You can get them pretty cheap. Or, plastidip, or wrap.
