View Full Version : Protecting Factory Black Wheels?

A few guys are reporting that they are seeing some rock chips on their black factory rims.

Not aware of any compressive way to minimize or eliminate it other than sending them out to have powder coated which would creates a much more durable surface; however, this would be painful and expensive process.

One of the forums mentioned Wolf's Nano Rim Shield which I have no knowledge?

There are ways to protect paint such as: protective film and/or "mud flaps" that do a good job for that application but that won't do anything to protect the rims.

Any other ideas?

Thank you !

tbh, i think theres very little that will defend against stone impacts at speed. the forces you're dealing with at a PSI level are enormous. self healing paints are on their way to the market though, so a solution may not be to far down the road. Dodo Juice have just release a nano wax which seems incredibly durable, and very affordable. that may be worth considering if its available where you are.

To the best of my knowledge:

There are currently no LSPs on the market that
are rock-chip proof; and, depending on the: size,
travel speed, and impact-force of the rocks...
PPF may also be penetrable---resulting in some
underlying rock-chipping!

Powder coating is probably the best (i.e. more durable)
remedy. Yes...it is quite likely to be more expensive
than most LSPs; but that cost should be the only
painful part of the Powder coating process, IMO.
