Hey everyone. Haven't been very active on here (busy with detailing!) so I figured I'd throw up a couple jobs I've done. I'm an independent detailer working out of Saskatchewan, Canada. And yes - we do have detailing up here! It's not winter all the time ;)

First: 1971 Ford Mustang Fastback

History: The current owner believes, but cannot confirm, that the paint was redone 36 years ago. The car had sat outside & in a shed for 32 years, at which point the current owner purchased it. He was very fortunate that there was absolutely no rust or rot of the body whatsoever - quite incredible, really.

Process: After inspecting the car and taking all applicable measurements, zoning of areas, etc., we discussed options for the paint. Due to it's previous condition, I recommended nothing more than a single-stage correction to enhance the paint and remove the oxidization buildup that occurred over the years due to UV rays and the such.

Due to how fragile specific parts of the vehicle was, the entire process was roughly 13 hours. Overall, it turned out fantastic and the owner was very happy - and I can proudly say he is now a loyal returning customer on a regular basis for his vehicle collection for both restorative and maintenance services.

And the finished results - Again, keep in mind this was a single-stage polish and even a light one at that. We wanted to bring some life back into the paint without risking integrity, even with it being a single-stage spray

One word....

AMAZING!

Single stage paint is my favorite type of paint to restore.

After doing this buff job on this classic Mustang what are your thought working on single stage as compared to basecoat/clearcoat paints?

Nice work buddy!

Yes - correct. That was my bad. It's been a long night, lol. I didn't copy/paste my job notes. Thank-you for correcting that!

Thanks! I really appreciate that

I too love single stage paint restoration. It's hard to explain, but the 'instant gratification' of working on this paint really stands true to just that. Now, that could partially be due to the vehicles I work on that would still have such a paint job - but as for a direct comparison between that an regular base/clearcoat, I would strongly argue that working on this type of paint is considerably easier & takes quite a bit less effort... at the expense of the mess it makes of the pads!

Thank-you! I'm one of those low-volume detailers currently, but it will become busier in time :)

Very very nice! Great job!

Thanks!

I had out Ford Raptor in the title as well, but unfortunately I do not have all my photos with me currently. However, the vehicle was brought to me by someone who worked in the oil industry for quite some time and used the vehicle there on a daily basis.

Over time, the natural elements (amongst other both natural and man-made contamination) was going to cause premature clear-coat failure if something wasn't done soon. What I would compare to as extreme contamination & oxidization, the surface felt embedded with a film that the customer stated could never be removed and caused the paint to appear significantly damaged. Here is how the vehicle was brought to me, and how it left my shop:

Wow!

That Raptor is truly a day and night difference after you did the detail.

Nice work and I agree with what you said about working on single stage paint. Thanks for adding that as so many of the guys that hang out on this forum have never had the blessing of restoring the single stage paint on a cool muscle car like the Mustang.

Amazing job on both accounts. I'm a truck guy and that Raptor looks beautiful. What kind of shop are you working in?

My brother built a large 40x60 shop that I so conveniently have at my disposal. Works out great for jobs like these.

LOL - no harm done, & thanks!

For whoever was wondering - For the Mustang, I used Sonax Perfect Finish for this. Incredible polish, really. I haven't experienced something with as much versatility as this in a long time.

The Raptor began with FG400 on some MF pads, followed by SPF again for the finish. I was considering using my SF4000/4500 to finish down, but the SPF had gotten to me in the weeks before & I couldn't say no!
