i have a new set of tail lights (smooth with no ridges) that have light swirl marks and scuffs. I want to give them a nice polish so they are nice and glossy and pretty much swirl-free. What would be the best approach for this?

For reference i have a PC 7424 with orange, white and black pads.

Would Maguiars M80 speed glaze followed by a wax do the trick? I also have maguiars fine cut cleaner....should that be used first?

thanks.

use a plastic polish like Megs or Novus .... then use Plexus weekly to keep them looking new. Hand polishing is usually good enough on these delicate offerings but headlamp kits offer a drill mounted polishing head as wanted.

There are two products you may want to look at: Plexus (http://www.autogeek.net/plexplasclea.html) and DP Plex-All (http://www.autogeek.net/dp-plex-all.html). These would be for cleaning and protecting.

Add Diamondite Plasti-Care to this list.

Machine polishing of them is the best way. I just fixed up a 96 Commodore sedan's tail lights that had wetsanding scratches all over them
Got the PB's SSR's out which are awesome on plastic and sorted them out with the 9227.

thanks.

New taillights shouldn't have swirls but since they do I'd get some Wolfgang or Diamondite plastic lens system. After you get the swirls out I'd treat regularly with Plexus or DP Plex All.

sorry, should have clarified....."new to me" not brand new. They are used as new ones cost a fortune.

ok, finally getting to these now. One of them had a few light scratches that i could feel with my finger nail so i ended up wet sanding them....now the surface is perfectly smooth. I ended with 2000 grit.

What is the best way to remove the sanding marks and bring back the shine now? I have a PC. Would Meguiars FIne cut cleaner do the trick (since i already have that)?

thanks.

Most of the time swirls and scratches in tail lights need strong hand polishing or machine work

It's safe to use, I've taken wet sand marks out with the rotary, 4 inch foam and PO91L menzerna before. Works brilliantly
