I too thought theres no need for a medium polish when you have 400 and 4000, however on some paints 2500 removed defects better than 400.
Don't ask me how or why but same pads same machine used and 2500 cut better. Thats why test spots are mandatory.

It's funny, I understand how they went from product numbers that had no relation to the function, to a "grit-based" system, where people can numerically compare say, a compound to a finish polish, but it's just silly to now slightly tweak the numbers and descriptions so that every product has a different name than it did 2 years ago--either they should have done it that way in the first place, or just live with it the way it was.

As confusing as this is for us, how much of a pain must this buy for the distributors? They've got to change all their product pages, all the references of "follow this up with SF4500...er...or 3800...or something" not to mention the inventory issues of mixed stock etc. etc. It's just dumb.

This.

Thank you Setec.

So, if I understand this correctly, the labeling changed but the products are the same?

Well that's a good question: the previous labeling suggested the grit correcting capability. So SF4500 could eliminate 4500 grit sandpaper scratches. But it's now called SF3800, so does that mean it is now more aggressive?

At least if you have multiple bottles of the same product, you will know which is the oldest and which is the newest!

As long as you have your Red Ryder Decode Ring handy to figure out which old one goes with which new one.
