Audi Q7 Question

Attached are pics of a client's Audi Q7 2nd row center console. Has anyone ever seen this happen before? It appears that whatever was used to color the piece has worn off. This damage happened sometime between last weekend and a prior detail.

Looks like some jean were rubing against it. Or could be a redie that's failing.
