I'm always looking to strengthen my weakest link. I think right now that is our trim protection for our detail packages.

My #1 & 2 go-to's are currently UTTG & Solutions finish

1) UTTG- Lasts super long and is resistant, but very hard to apply in tight areas and becomes sticky allowing dirt to accumulate

2) Solutions finish- Super easy to apply, looks superb, but just doesn't last more than 1 mos.

I'm looking for something preferably water based, easy to apply (can be brushed or wiped on, and easy to spread), and that lasts at least 2-3 months.

I would be VERY happy with UTTG if it was easier to apply/not so thick, and not so sticky afterwards.

NOT looking for a coating for these packages. Its just too expensive for a base details. Something that delivers long lasting value, quick and easy to apply to keep labor costs down, and looks good!

Others i've tried: Hyper dressing, VRP dressing, Perl, and quite a few others that i cannot remember.

How are you prepping the surface for solution finish because that is key

I usually use a magic eraser and an APC to clean the trim. But we've tried all sorts of stuff to help with bonding. I've cleaned with IPA and APCs and gotten the same durability from an uncleaned trim to a cleaned trim.

We get a lot of rain here, and its 70-90degrees here year round (HI), and lots of salted ocean air.

No coatings please. Just too expensive for our middle line details.

What is included in a middle line detail? I ask because I always scratch my head when I see a detail that includes paint correction, but then only dressing was used for trim.

yea no, not a correction detail. Wash, clay, wax/sealant, trim, rims, and a general interior cleaning. staring at $150

Solution Finish, not on coating level but far out performs anything else.

Have you tried Meguiars Ultimate Protectant (Ultimate Black)?

I've had good success with that for trim that is in average to good condition.

I've been playing with Meg's PP365 on trim. So far it seems to be working wonderfully. :xyxthumbs:

This lasted well over 3 months on my new Rogue. Put it on back in March and has been through countless Florida summer rain storms, it's just needing to be reapplied now.

Have you tried cutting UTTG?

See this is weird, I see the exact opposite. UTTG lasts way longer, but is so much more difficult to apply and IMO doesn't look as good as SF on older trim. Lots of people rave about SF but I just cant get it to stick.. in some cases it's raining off in just 2 weeks. It goes on so easy and spreads like butter and looks phenominal.
