Cats jumping / sleeping on cars

So... i am currently living with some friends, where i park OUTSIDE.

And lately there is a cat in the neighborhood that loves to sleep on cars.

Well it is leaving foot print and scratches all over my roof and hood.

Any idea on how to keep cats OFF?

I taped a flannel bedsheet to the underside of a tarp. Put tarp on hood, hold down with a water jug to prevent sliding and marks on hood.

To keep cats off, try bowl of citrus which they hate. If you can catch them on hood, a spray bottle with water can hit them from 10-feet

Problem is i have never even seen a cat on my street in day light.
The cat comes out in EARLY MORNING, like 1-5 type of time lol

If i do manage to spray water, will that PREVENT them from coming back?

Live with it, cover it every night or garage it, that's the reality.

Talk to your local animal control and see if you can borrow a live trap. Once trapped take it to the pound.

I feel your pain lol.

I'm parked in the garage so no issue there, but when I visit my buddy down the street his cat got me once. I could hear his claws sliding across my slick hood when he jumped from the ground up onto it. Had to sand & buff to repair.

I just lift my hood now every time I visit. The cat has no place to land except the hot engine compartment (pickup truck). Haven't had a problem since I started doing that.

Good point Bob. I guess my dilemma is choosing the lesser of 2 evils. Its not just paw prints for me, but claw scratches. My theory is that a few nights of water spots may be the sacrifice I need to make to dissuade the cats from returning, so any water spot damage (and claw marks for a cat running off the car after being hit by water!) will be isolated to a few days as opposed to an ongoing battle.

I have put mulch in and around around the area that I park. Invested in a supersoaker; water with a little bit of vinegar to spray around the area or at the cats if I am lucky enough. The oils from the zest of lemon if you give it a week to emulsify in a mason jar with vinegar and eucalyptus oil poured around the car are all beneficial.

Some of these can be a problem if it rains a lot. Which is why I like having mulch around if that's feasible.

It's crossed my mind to in a emergency to do a couple spritz of Iron X around my car. Because if lemon is too much of an odor I know that smell; some cat is going to be like screw this!!! I'll be some other car's problem!

You may have to get up early one day or two for an hour to hit em with the water gun to send a message. I've sent a few messages this year. A couple of those and they all get the hint the cross me! :)

BTW I just purchased some Citronella Essential Oil. I have heard great things about it mixed with water as a cat deterrent. Probably just going to have a mix handy in my car when I'm go places for that extra security.
