Hey guys.
Haven't been on here for a while. But came upon a problem and can't figure it out.
I have the 3" griots orbital polisher and I have the 3 " backing plate. I was using the cyclone 3" pads and the backing plate kept on breaking the pads. so I went with the 3" griots pads and it di the same thing. Now why is it destroying the pads?? shouldn't a 3" backing plate work on a 3" pad? Could someone tell me what pads work with what backing plate? don't want to break anymore than what I already have.
Thanks guys.

Sounds odd.

Can you describe how it is "breaking" the pad.

Velcro coming off, pad self destructed, sunken?

It looks like a problem with technique. whats speeds are you using and how much pressure you putting on. Do you find you have a lot of resistance on the pad? are you sure its the polisher damaging the pad and not anything else?

For the compounding and taking out the swirl marks and scratches I put it at 5.5 to 6. If i'm polishing but usually use my cyclone for that I put it at 4. Could be that i'm not keeping it level but I keep an eye on it. Yea I do put pressure on it for the heavier scratches.

Griot's DAs are pretty powerful aren't they? Start with 50% speed and work your way up from there perhaps?

The pad looks to soft for cutting(what kind is it?). Look into microfiber cutting pads. Foam pad for polishing. You also want to try to keep it flat on the paint apply even pressure slow movements. Id recommend brushing up on polishing techniques.
