Test an inconspicuous spot, but an all-in-one paint cleaner may be your best bet. Something like Klasse all-in-one

Thanks

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I just bought this stuff and have yet to use it. It's been pretty cold here lately and raining, so the car hasn't been washed in about a week. Has anyone used this without washing the exhaust tips first?

I figured this would be a bad idea (similar to polishing a dirty car), but I figured I'd ask regardless. What do you guys think?

When I used this product, I didn't wash the exhaust tips. The reason why I did that is because this product is labelled a "cleaner" so I thought that it would be OK and it worked great. Here are my results:

I've always at least given them a light cleaning first. A disposable towel and some APC should get the heavy deposits off, that way you won't ruin the lake country sponge as fast.

I got this product for no charge (for reviewing it) and I did not hesitate to purchase again. Lasted me about 25 cars and I probably over used it a few times.

I have used this product & reviewed on dirty exhaust without washing the tips. You can go straight to cleaning the exhaust with this product.

I think its probably a good idea to at least wipe them free of any loose dirt that might be visible, but certainly no need to pre clean them with any other chemicals or products.

I just did the exhaust tips on my 2012 Acura TL that I purchased used last year so they may never have been touched since new. Pretty good before and after though I didn’t expect it to take quite so much scrubbing but that was mainly the heat “burn” at the bottom of the exhaust. Overall I can’t complain and since I haven’t tried another metal polish on it, I’d say Pinnacle Exhaust Cleaner worked great using the Lake Country Exhaust Polishing Sponge. I also applied some Collinite 855 metal polish to add a little protection just in case it helps.

Also, since it was winter, I didn’t use any water or precleaning, just went at it with the polish, sponge, and a (wheel) towel. When I hook the hose back up, I may try to clean the inside of the exhaust tip. Probably took about 20 minutes for both exhaust tips.
