Frog Tape, Blue Painters, those will all work well as long as you don't leave them on for days.

I like 3M 233+ better than 3M Performance Masking Tape

It conforms to curves better and is less expensive

The 3M Performance Masking Tape is Great for 50/50 shots, becasue the backing is not Crepe like the 2333+ and it doesnt make your Compound Dust as much

Also really like the new tape from CarPro

I'll toss in my additional vote for the 3M 233+ tape and available right here from AG. LOVE that tape! I bought the 3 pack and use the heck out of the various widths.

...and sometimes it happens leaving the tape for only 5-6 hours.

I'll take 3M AUTOMOTIVE tape any day of the week, or this Meguiars Professional Masking Tape, auto masking tape, car masking tape, detailing tape (http://www.autogeek.net/meguiars-auto-masking-tape.html).

The blue tape was edge-loc...and it was super tough to remove, especially from the ladder racks. The green tape was 3m automotive tape and it came right off.

I've tried a bunch of different tapes. Quite frankly, they all sucked. If your using a DA - taping is mostly avoidable. Just use smaller pads and pay attention.

I just polished my whole SUV (every surface) and didn't use a strip of tape.

I generally agree, i haven't ever experienced any damage or burn through with a DA. I use a rotary for my initial cuts and never fail to tape off due to a couple of oops moments in the past. I will say i leave the tape on while finishing up with my DA to avoid getting product in hard to remove areas...just makes cleanup faster. I have also used some products that will stain trim and like to avoid that too.
