Interesting... probably wouldnt have sanded it based on first look, but it worked so I can't complain!

:iagree:
I actually did tried compounding but wouldn't get 100% out and no point risking the paint being burned

therefore sanding does help:dblthumb2:

Those are phenomenal results! Nice work. Do you know what caused it?

Nice work. I got 3 areas on my hood that got etched so bad that it went through the clear and base, strait to the primer. I know we get acid rain often here in Hawaii from the VOG (volcanic particles) from the volcano on the big island. When it mixes with the rain it becomes sulfuric acid. That's what I think it was anyway. I could be wrong.

Thanks for sharing your encounters,
Amazed and shock to find out the amount of pollution you guys are facing in Hawaii
It is not only affecting your property esthetic but also a threat to you health as well!

Mind if you can share some of the picture, perhaps some of the guru here may give you some insights and share how one would have overcomed!
Benefiting all of us here! Always good to learn from these experienced guys ! Calling help outta now! We don't need to reinvent the will!

Our paint is protected and cover over by this layer of protection called clear coat! This is most proven coat of protection ever make (baked under 120 degree Celsius! Able to resist sun, rain or show ! But At times easily damages by some contamination like birds poos, tree sap or water sprinkle, delayed in action and neglection may put our paint in jeopardy and risk premature failure! Every strength has its weakness! We now called it pro and cons

We can't afford to take chances and delay in Dealing with these Contamination! Eg if we were to buy a iPhone whose has Gorilla glass ! It doesn't mean we are encourage to use sharp object on the screen and precaution must be taken by the user!

In conclusion, I encourage you to try to savage your lost by trying to save her!
Forrest Gump favorite quote" life is like a box of chocolate , you bber know what it will come out from it!

Saluting your passion ! And you have me Awaiting for your epic post

I will get some pictures when it gets light out. Thing is I see it on the majority of the cars I do to. Certain point. My neighbor had the same thing happen to his hood, right through the base and clear down to the primer. Causing the paint to chip off. It's crazy. I just took a hazmat technician class at work and asked the instructors what could be causing this on cars. What I wrote earlier is what they said and I never realized it. The other islands only get VOG when the winds are from the south west because majority of the time it's from the north west thus blowing most of that junk south of the islands.

Sorry but it's been raining here the last few days so I haven't had a chance to get a good picture. It's beyond any repair as far as polishing and sanding. I need to use touch up paint. I am still amazed how fast it happened. Will do when I have a day off and it stops raining.

Never used touch up paint yet so I guess this is a good opportunity to test it out.
