Hey guys, I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around hand compounding/polishing and when I need to utilize it.

My car has several spots where I'm certain I won't be able to get my GG6, even with the small 4" pads so I think I'll have to get those spots by hand. Unfortunately, I don't see many topics come across about hand polishing and when I do a search I got thousands of topics come across but I just don't have time to search each one of them. Sorry, it's the only excuse I have but it's honest.

I'm just wondering when doing cars, when do you decide you might have to set the polisher down and use some elbow grease? Would I use the same products I am using with my DA or should I use something else? Also, links for what you are using for your hand polishing would be great. I'm mainly concerned with what type of applicators I should be using for hand polishing and the proper technique. Any help is really appreciated.

Products I have available to work with currently:

GG6 w/ LC 5" & 3.5" BP
Iron X
Nanoskin Mitt (Blue-Fine)
5.5" & 4" Foam pads - Around 50 pads from LC and B&S (All types)
3D/HD Speed AIO, 3D/HD Polish, 3D/HD Poxy & 3D/HD UNO
Menzerna SF4500 & WG Deep Gloss Spritz Sealant
CG's V36 & V38, CG's Jetseal, CG's V7 spray sealant and CG's Butter Wet Wax

Tight thin panels. Louvers. When getting close to parts of the car you don't want to harm with a spinning pad.

Mostly tight thin panels where it's hard to get a buffer but even then, when there's a will there's a way.

You want to use products that use the best abrasive technology. If the products work on black paint using a DA Polisher there's a good chance they'll work by hand.

Here's what I always type on this topic....

It requires MORE SKILL to work on basecoat/clearcoat paints than it does to work by machine.

That's a fact. Most people I meet don't possess the skills to work by hand with compounds, polishes and cleaner/waxes.

Here's some tips for working by hand here,

Been meaning to take these pictures that are actually lost an buried in another thread and create an article showing one option for compounding and polishing thin panels and tight areas.

Here you go...

Also, VT/NAV has a weird paint. I tried on my blue candy Euro Orange hand applicator in tight spots with UC/UP, it didn't move imperfection a bit.
