Are these different from a typical led light? My led tripod is too bright to see fine scratches. I'm not gonna bother getting one if its the same type of light

Have you tried a Maglite? They have small ones that aren't too bright. Might even try one of those cheap ones on the check out counter in stores.

Yes...Sometimes they are.

I've had very good swirl-finding results
from using a light source that has a:
35W, 12V, 4700-Kelvin, 36 degree beam angle...
incandescent spot halogen MR16 light bulb...
One with a GU5.3 base.

I use an led light from Costco for work and the Flex light to do inspections and odd areas.
