So once the weather gets warm, on weekend mornings I'm typically at least washing two of my family's three cars, and most likely doing something detailing related to one of them. This past Sunday I did a two step paint correction on my 2013 Mini Cooper S. I only have a small garage in my townhome, so it's much easier to work outside. I definitely get weird looks from my neighbor when I bust out the pressure washer and foam cannon, but this weekend they started making comments when they saw my EZ Up tent for shade and green tape covering all the trim on my car. I was asked no less than three times if I was painting my car!

At least some of them have gotten curious about how good their cars could look. My next door neighbor has a 2013 Volvo C70 convertible that she washes with a sponge mop!!

How many of you have neighbors that think you're crazy also?

My neighbor says I'm going to rub off my paint,

I get that a lot too. They fail to see that what I'm doing is going to keep the paint ON my car!

Yep, I have gotten that one as well. I am sure they think I am crazy, and I am, but at least my insanity is channeled at something unharmful :)

Yup. Parts of my weekends are usually spent tending to the cars. Get the occasional comment and I'm sure I'm talked about by the neighbors. Rarely see others doing the same. And it certainly doesn't help when I put on knee pads to clean the wheels 😜.

Plus all the people who drive by gawking, it's a passion.

Funny post. I get that look from my neighbors as well. I'm working on three daily drivers all the time. I wash the vehicles in the driveway but then pull them into the garage for drying/claying/polishing/waxing. Once you've got the paint corrected, it's pretty easy to maintain that look either with a QD or a rinsless/waterless wash. That part of it is pretty quiet and I'm not bothering the neighbors. Now, if the DA was humming along 24/7, that'd be different. Bottom line - my paint pops, even on a dd, and that's an awesome feeling. Everyone on this forum should feel the same way.

Don't get any comments because I have an attached garage, a new steel-type garage door with no windows and when fully closed they don't even hear my DA running nor my RW splashing around.

If I could work inside I definitely would. My garage is a little tight even to work on my Mini.

I've had a few stares when I first started using a foam gun/cannon and also a leaf blower to dry the car...

Just last weekend I got the ol' "Want to do mine next?" from my across-the-street neighbor.

"Sure, but I'm really expensive"....slowed him down a little and he actually came over and we talked detailing for a bit. His cars are a disaster - probably lucky for me he didn't seem all that motivated. :nomore:

They would think I'm crazy if I ever saw them!

I get crap all the time from my neighbors who don't wash their cars at all. "You missed a spot" and "going to come wash mine?"

I'm sure I did miss a spot, and sure my services start at $50 an hour.

They keep threatening to have me locked up.
