Use Dawn to strip wax?

Hey guys,

I am wondering if I should use Dawn to wash my new truck in order to remove the "Zaktek" coating (basically a wax on wax off sealant they put on at the dealership). I plan on applying Pinnacle Cleansing Lotion followed by Collinite 845.

Or should I just stick with my Meguiar's Gold Class?

I use a 50/50 water/rubbing alcohol, or claying will take care of it. I've never used the dawn stuff after reading that it is pretty harsh and not needed.

ehh, machine applying that Pinnacle stuff? i don't know much about that product but it sounds like something that would what you are looking for re: removing the sealant.

I use Chemical Guys Citrus Wash n Gloss in a higher dilution rate in my foamer and it works great.

Do you plan on claying or polishing? If so, no need to use Dawn soap.

There is no concrete proof that Dawn can remove all of a wax or sealant. It will stop beading and thus some feel it must have removed all traces of a wax. Likely a couple of uses wont harm anything, but not sure over time and repeated use that any dishwashing liquid should be used on seals, rubber, and trim specifically.

Why not use products designed to remove wax or sealants, perhaps a cleaner wax, paint cleansing lotion, or polish ??? There are also strippers and other products that can help.

There is no concrete proof your fancy products like the citrus wash remove all the wax... No proof the 50/50 alcohol solution does either.

I think I remember Zaino recommending a Dawn Ultra wash before the initial application of their products. They claimed it would completely strip off old wax. They also stated to only use it once and then never again.

I once attempted to use dawn to clean wax off of a knife at my kitchen sink. It didn't work well.

Concrete proof! What type of proof you after? Companies spend tens of thousands of dollars on R&D creating and improving their products. There is even plenty of forum members that conduct their own tests and share the results.

Polish it off...if you want a sure fire result, plus you get the added benefits of routine maintenance polishing such as a finishing polish, AIO, or cleaner wax.
