Hello, I am a user of the Flex 3401 polisher. I wonder if it is possible to modify the default (5.5") or small (4-3 / 8") backing plate to 4" so that I can use spotpads?

According to Some reviews the quality of the adapter kit is very poor :(

Well I have been using mine for over 1 year with no issues. My guess is that they did not put the backing plate in properly.

As for those that have had bad experiences it could be user error too.

You have to make sure the backing Plate adapter aligns with the Flex mounting system. Make sure you oil the felt ring too.

Again, no issues at all and I use it quite a bit.

there's always going to be some lemons in just about any product(s) made and i'm sure out of the hundreds/thousands they have sold that work flawlessly, there's a small percentage that have issues. dave from lake country has a presence on here and is only a PM or phone call away if there is a problem...

Everyone is recommending these on the 3401 when talking about 4" plates, but is no one concerned with the reviews of the system? I know that's keeping me from considering it right now.

I have had several of the backing plate systems and I have blown all of them out. Stick with the Flex brand backing plates only for the best longevity and performance.

I will check first if it's possible to change an original backingplate (with original quality) to 4" although i'm afraid that it will not cover the gearing house.

Unfortunately, the "system"" is a low quality product, that can not last.

I had 3 of them. The first lasted about 4 cars, the second 2 cars and the 3rd died on me after bonnet and roof were completed.

Felt ring oiled, all aligned properly with the Flex mounting system , washer(s) used as per video instruction posted on this forum.

The plastic that the "system' is made of is of a low quality and cracks easily.

I'm surprised that after so many complaints all over the net this thing is still offered for sale.

My original Flex B/Plates are flawless after hours and days of polishing.

Enough said!
