My friend and I went 50/50 on a UDM and some pads and products. He is working on an 03 Black PT Cruiser that he recently acquired. Probably never been waxed and has lots of swirls and scratches. Well anyways, since I told him that he can't harm his paint with a DA style polisher he took it upon himself to buff right over the edges of his paint and actually compounded some of the windshield trim and some of the sunroof surround. Its that dull black trim that gets UV damage and turns rough like the quarter window trim on a fox body mustang. Anyways how does he go about making this alot less noticeable. The areas are not only smoother than the rest of the trim but they are not nearly as black anymore. I think he could live with smoother as long as the colour was uniform. Would Mothers Back to Black work on this problem. Do I have to use a product to remove all the compoound residue from the trim first? Should I always tape off any trim if I will be getting that close to it or just avoid the edge altogther?

Thanks, Pat.

One of these should work to removed the compound.
Wax Blaster Wax Remover dissolves errant wax stains on rubber & plastic exterior trim in minutes! trim, wax stain, white wax, molding, rubber, (http://www.autogeek.net/wax-remover.html)
or
Duragloss Wax Eraser (WE) #481 (http://www.autogeek.net/duragloss-wax-eraser.html)

If they failed, try this.
Forever Black restores a dark, black, finish on sun-faded bumpers and body moldings. Forever Black permanently dyes black plastic, rubber and vinyl. (http://www.autogeek.net/forblacbumtr.html)
