Hi everyone. So recently I purchased a 1999 Argento Nürburgring Ferrari F1 Spider. The car is an absolute blast to drive and is in great mechanical condition at 23k miles. It just recently had it's 30k major engine out service done about 500 miles ago. It also came with a great sounding Tubi exhaust.

Of course the first thing I had to do after buying the car was give it some detailing TLC. The car wasn't in bad cosmetic condition by any means, but it had a few nasty paint defects, a dirty discolored soft top, tired looking exhaust tips, and light swirl marks all over. Someone had also shined the tires without cleaning them first so they looked brown underneath the dressing. The interior and engine compartment also needed a little cleanup to look their best again.

I started with a foam bath using Duragloss car wash concentrate. I used a plastic garbage bag to cover the engine compartment from water that could make it's way through the engine lid vents. The car was initially foamed and rinsed to get rid of as much dirt as possible without making physical contact with my wash media.

The wheels were cleaned with the help of Adam's wheel cleaner, a Speedmaster wheel brush, and a Wheel Woolies boar's hair brush. Tires were cleaned with APC and a tire brush. This took about 4 rounds per tire with rinsing in between to really get them clean. Fender liners and exhaust tips were also cleaned at this time.

I cleaned the soft top with a long reach Carrand brush and 303 fabric and vinyl cleaner. This also took multiple rounds of cleaning and rinsing.

I then hand washed the rest of the car with my CarPro wool mitt and cleaned various emblems and tight spaces with another boar's hair brush.

After the car was thoroughly washed and rinsed. I gave it an Iron X chemical decontamination before proceeding to mechanically decontaminate with a Nanoskin mitt and diluted ONR. The car then received one final rinse down.

I dried the paint and wheels with my Metro Vac n Blow. I took a short break and came back to tape off trim, cover the top, and start correcting the paint.

As said before, the paint wasn't in horrible condition, but it had its fair share of swirls and various defects. A few trouble spots I ended up sanding with 3000 grit sand paper to level them out. After performing a quick test spot, I decided on using Menzerna FG400, PF2500 and orange and white Lake Country Hybrids with my Flex 3401. I also used my Flex PE8 and Griot's Garage DA with 3" Lake Country orange foam pads for working on tight spaces. I even polished some tricky spots with my 2" Harbor Freight pneumatic sander turned polisher with the help of some pads from Buffdaddy.

There were a few rock chips I couldn't fix but I'll probably sort them out later down the road with touch up paint.

I had to take a break and finish up the following up night.

Of course there were a few rids I wasn't comfortable with removing, but I'd say I got around 90% defect removal.

After polishing and inspecting my work, I cleaned out various crevices with D114 to ensure I didn't leave behind any unsightly polishing dust.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y179/lookitsharis/IMG_9247_zpszc0xkcr0.jpg (http://s5.photobucket.com/user/lookitsharis/media/IMG_9247_zpszc0xkcr0.jpg.html)

I then wiped the car down with CarPro Eraser twice and proceeded to apply CQuartz UK to the paint.

The top was wiped down with IPA and protected with CQuartz fabric and vinyl. I used tape and garbage bags to mask off the surround areas during application. I didn't really get any good photos of this process unfortunately. After application I wiped the top gently with a clean towel towel.

Wheels and glass were cleaned with Eraser and coated with Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Surface Coating. Tires were dressed with CarPro Perl first before cleaning and coating the wheels.

The exhaust was cleaned with 0000 steel wool and 3000 grit sandpaper and then hand polished with Optimum Metal Polish.

The next day I inspected the car one more time. It was really looking great.

The interior was very well kept and was mostly just in need of a thorough vacuuming.

It did have a few minor stains on the door upholstery, dirt in the vents, and a greasy feeling steering wheel, but these would be easily taken care of with Detailer's Pro interior cleaner and a small brush/towels. I used APC for some other trouble areas that required more intensive cleaning.

I then cleaned out the engine compartment with APC, nylon brushes, and towels. I ended up using a brake parts cleaner to clean a few metal parts. I then dressed the various black bits and pieces with CarPro Perl.

Well that's all I've got, thanks for looking guys!

This weekend I'll be working on the Coupe De Ville here in Houston that Mike Phillips posted about. I'll also be correcting the paint on a 97 STO Edition Miata with 28k original miles. Keep an eye out for those soon!

Wow! How exciting! :dblthumb2:

Congrats on the prancing horse! Beautiful car, I rather like it in silver too to be honest. Remarkable turn around too. Shines like it ought to now.

Fantastic post mate thank you for sharing. :props:

Enjoy doing the Caddy! Would love to be a part of that.

FANTASTIC. What was your total time detailing the car between the 2 days?

I love the 355 and you have a beautiful example of one. Excellent job getting this Ferrari back to fantastic condition!

I love the photos, too. The photos "in action" are really great.

The F355 is really one of those timeless designs and yours is a fine example. I can't help but think of it as a baby Testarosa.

I really enjoyed your documentation of the detail, too!!

Cool beans and outstanding work! The thing that caught my eye (reading) was "30K engine out service"...that doesn't really mean that every 30,000 miles they have to take the engine out for maint?
