I just returned the PC 7424xp that I bought and ordered a Griot's 6" polisher instead, mainly from the reviews I read on the forum so thanks to everyone for giving their opinions.

The only question I have right now is there a specific gauge extension cord I need to use with the Griot's 6" polisher??? I don't know much about electricity but I know enough that not having the proper gauge wire can be harmful to the machine.

Any advice is appreciated.

with cords the more draw a tool uses the bigger gage you need. and a longer cord loses more current. so a 25 or 50 foot cord of a decent size will be fine...

It dépends on the length of the extension cord. The longer it is, the bigger the gauge should be. Usually you have a chart in the tool's manual stating what gauge is needed by lenght.

I will definitely check the manual when it comes. Was hoping that someone with the Griot's could chime in as I am running to Home Depot shortly.

Thanks for the responses so far. :)

Home depot has a extension cord chart online that tells you how amp per foot of cord.

Just get a 12 AWG cord and do not worry about it. It will carry a 20A load for at least 50 ft. If the cord is labeled with 15A rating, it is because it is not using an official 20A plug/receptacle on the ends.

Funny, while I was at Home Depot I had a 25ft 12 gauge extension in my hand. I then decided to wait until I get the polisher to just see what the manual says.

Thanks for the advice!

I'd get a 50ft, 25ft I find being short time to time and have to walk around the vehicle more.

buy two 12 gauge 50ft cords and be done with it. if one isn't long enough you can connect them...

What I did was get a 100ft heavy guage and a outdoor suitable 3 way splitter. Also got a nice cord reel and attached the cord at the halfway mark before wounding. Sits in the back of my truck, I can always just pull out as much as I need and put the reel halfway between. Easy clean up and can power all my tools at once.

I saw those exact cords with the splitter. I actually picked it up to look at it. My Griot's will arrive today so I will check out those instructions and likely head over to Home Depot and pick something up.

I bought a Yellow Jacket HD contractor extension cord and never looked back (yes they cost but so did my Flex)

You shouldn't need anything larger than the 16 gauge cord that is already attached to you GG6.
