I was watching this video:

Paint Depth when Wetsanding, Compounding, and Polishing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmwklO7NDvI

I was confused somewhat with the early part of this video in terms of the texture matching vs texture leveling. So now I'm wondering if I take out a scratch on panel, will leveling that spot make that small area noticeable when you are looking at the whole panel? And if so is it only when doing something as aggressive as wetsanding vs just compounding?

I think it is a great informative video. It's just as I learn it leaves me with more questions.

In addition to the defect, wet sanding will also remove orange peel. If you have a lot of orange peel, or your paint isn't well polished to begin with, there is a chance of creating a "shiny spot" that may be noticeable. Don't forget when you go to wet sand, you're not doing JUST the scratch, you have to spread the work over a slightly larger area to make sure you don't concentrate too much in one spot and sand through the paint.
