I was just wondering what everyone's preferred method and products for removing old wax prior to buffing or polishing?

+1.

There is no special step to remove wax. Once you buff or polish, that action will remove any wax on the vehicle.

What about isopropyl alcohol to remove the old wax and polish?

Strong all purpose cleaner wash followed by claying. Maybe polishing as well. Follow it up with an IPA or similar wipedown.

IPA is unreliable at best. It MIGHT remove a heavily degraded wax but it should not remove any good wax in half decent condition - if IPA were to remove a product in good condition then the product isn't very good!

Polish is the best approach as it will get rid of wax/sealant every time.

Work forward as Mike would day. Polish it off with a good cleaner wax or finishing polish. Even the new coating prep polishes like DP prep polish works perfect.

I'm with the rest. I mechanically knock it out with a polish.
