I decided to relocate the on off switch from the side to the top. This requires separating the body from the head and rotating the body, moving switch to the top. I separated the body to far from the head. There are 2 ears that fit around the coil. I pulled the shaft psst these ears. The ears sprang toward the middle and now i cannot reinsert the shaft. The ears will retract but will not stay in thst position. How do i fix this?

I had a similar problem when I changed out the cord. Since it was so long ago, I can't remember what I had to do to get it back together. I believe those ears are the brushes. Could you upload a picture and that might jog my memory. It was not that difficult, I just can't remember off top of my head.

Thanks for the help.
The brushes are at the bottom towards the middle.

You're going to have to get access to the brushes, they are going to be spring loaded onto the armature, you'll need to pull them out, put the armature back in, then reinsert the brushes. Sorry I can't be more specific, I don't have a HF.

:iagree: Those are the brushes and like mentioned will need to pull those back out of the way. There was a fairly easy way to do that. I just can't remember off the top of my head. I am not sure if I pulled the cord out the back, then was able to reinstall. i know that higher dollar units had an access port for the brushes.
I am at work right now, so I can't help past my memory.
I know there is a HF thread, you might try searching for that, I know there is a lot of really good information there.
I could have forwarded you some mods I did to mine with pictures, but just lost the hard drive in computer about 2-3 days ago, so I have been trying to recover most of my files to no avail.

Hope this helps somewhat.

If you accidentally pull the plastic body back too far, which unfortunately I did, you’ll need to remove the bottom half of the plastic body to pull the brushes back. To remove, brushes unscrew bottom screw by the power cord then pull off bottom plastic cover. Unscrew / remove the brush assembly then reinsert the top half

Hope this helps

:iagree: Yeah, this user's reference was the reference that helped me make sure I didn't pull down more than an either of an inch. Remove that plastic bottom and you'll clearly see where the brushes attach and it's actually an easy fix from there. You just have to day with the time consumption of getting to them.

Did you replace grease? Mine was a different machine after I did that! I love my HF DA.
