I need help dressing tires on my Explorer. I am using DP Tire Gel and I like the product but my problem occurs because the tire has a raised rib around it. I have tried numerous applicators but these ribs are killing me because I can't get it to be uniform. Any hints or suggestions. Thanks. Hopefully the pic I am including goes through. Edit; nope website will not allow my Apple to upload pic.

Use a paint brush as your applicator and work it in and around the ribs. This works wonders and you use less product.

I use to HATE tire gels. UNTIL...These brushes. Get them! Puts down a nice even coat for a perfect tire. I use these with the opti bond tire gel. Never looked back.

My DP tire coating kit came with one of these brushes and I see NO issue when using this to accomplish your goals OP:props:

I use a product similar to this with good success.

Tire & Trim Dressing Applicator (http://www.autogeek.net/sm505.html)

The one I use was purchased at a local store and has a slightly different handle. I found the foam works well on a variety of sidewalls, although the textured ones do damage it a bit. However, since it only cost $1.50~$2, I can afford to toss it every few months a buy a new one.

I went out of my way to find a tire with a flat sidewall just for that reason.
