Has anyone ever noticed the lightest of defects will show up on a dark car in the sun on panels that are angled at around 45° or so?

This seems to make sense, as most experienced Detailers will look at black/dark paint at a 45° angle to inspect their work.

The reason has to do with physics and how the eye perceives light and the image you are looking at. Yes, if paint is jacked up - you can see it from any angle. But, I'm talking about the final finishing polish step - after all major defects are corrected. Or, initial inspection of a car with nice dark paint - when your looking at the slightest defects.

Here are some examples of panels that sit give or take closer to 45° - then 0° or a 90° viewing angle from the person's viewing perspective.

(Illustrating angle only - not meant to show defects or no defects here)
