Of Hurricane Andrew today (24th), crazy. We had a house in the Key's and couldn't get hold of neighbors or anything to check if the property was ok. Drove down there to check on it and it was fine, no damage, or even water damage and it was directly on the waterway with the beach/ocean across street. No damage, couldn't believe it. But driving down there we had to go through Homestead....was like a nulcear bomb went off, still remember that Burdines buidling that was basically cut in half (and was something like 10 stories?).

Whats crazy is they never got an accurate reading on Andrew even though planes had recorded sustained winds of 180+ mph, which factored to about 160-170 mph on the ground. Andrew destroyed every anemometer recorder so they never had an accurate measure only estimates.

3 Years ago one of my friends lost a house in the keys during a huricane. It didn't blow away or anything like that. It burnt to the ground. It started on fire and the Fire Dept. wouldn't come out in the hurricane. An investigation determined that the water came up and caused a short in his Jeep that was in the garage. The Jeep started on fire and burnt down the house. With the high winds from the hurricane it didn't take long for his house to completely burn to the gound.

Its hard to beleive that I was 6 when andrew hit. I remember it like it was a year ago...Thankfully my family moved to jupiter 2 years before andrew hit. We moved from coconut grove. I remember my dad had to drive to miami to give him chainsaw to my uncle.
