Started with a basic wash, but ended up comparing two waxes. Plus, a follow up on PB Wheel Sealant.

Products used:

Soap: Duragloss #901 with an AG foam gun + Shmitt

Dry: Leaf blower with an Air Wand attachment & a Cobra Guzzler

Wheels: Duragloss #901 soap + Black Shmitt, EZ brush, Amazing Roll Off on the tires and wheel wells. Meg’s tire brush. Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Gel on the tires and No Touch spray on the wheel wells.

Wax: PB Natty’s Red & XMT 180. Applied with a Cobra MF Applicator Pad and removed with a Cobra Indigo MF.

Last Sunday I polished the car with XMT 360 and topped it with Pinnacle Souveran Liquid Spray Wax. I drive the car every day to and fro work. Note the beading after one week:

On Sunday I also worked on my wheels. I had them refinished a few days before so after cleaning them I applied a coat of Poorboy’s Wheel Sealant. A week later the wheels were dirty but nothing like they used to get.

My Opinion: The PB Wheel sealant is easier to remove than the DP Wheel Glaze. It seemed to have helped keep the wheels clean after a week. I only used soap, no wheel cleaner. I’m still not fully convinced it is worth the effort. While washing the wheels I thought I had a couple of scratches but they tuned out to be sealant I have not completely buffed off. In other words, the PB Wheel Sealant is a great product, but takes a lot of effort to use.

Now, on to the wax. Soon I’ll be stripping down the finish to prep for a Concourse so today I thought I would experiment. I applied Natty’s Red to half the hood and XMT 180 to the other half.

Both waxes applied and dried for ten minutes:

Natty’s Red:

XMT 180:

Side by side:

My Opinion: Not a lot of difference between the two. Both went on and off easy, but XMT wins by a nose as it was a tad easier to apply (smoother) and to remove. Natty’s smells like a crayon and XMT 180 smells like grape bubble gum. I can’t tell any difference in finish looks. Maybe there will be a difference in a day or two. Next week when I wash I’ll see if there is any difference in beading.

Dwarf I have to say that I love the NR, but Love 180 as well. it seems that they both do give the same shine... durbility will have to be the determining factor. I would try coating your wheels with the NR or 180, then you don't have to buy PB wheel sealant!! nevertheless I love your car, it's sick!!

Well, it was work well done and all. But I don't know if I'd go so far as to call it a work of God.

I thought Natty's Red was supposed to smell like strawberries? I have yet to use any of these waxes----gotta use what I've got first.:)

Nice review and job Reddwarf. My one complaint about DP Wheel Glaze is that it is hard to remove. I have a tub of Natty's red but I have yet to try it. What happened to the scratch on your Jag?

Thanks Gary. The scratch is still on the tail. I'm going to take it to a body shop for an estimate next week. I agree that the DP Wheel Glaze is hard to remove. The PB Wheel Sealant is easier to remove but still takes a lot of work.

dengood, I didn't smell strawberry, it just reminded me of a box of crayons.

wheels looks great. i love the ez detail brush for well maintained wheels. i now use spray sealants for my wheels because it takes a fraction of the time to apply.

Hmmmm, maybe they forgot to add it to the batch you got!!

from Poorboysworld.com:

http://www.poorboysworld.com/products/natty-red.jpgFor those of you Natty's & carnauba fans, we have created a Limited Edition Natty's Red. Just in time for the 4th of July, you can now have the whole Natty's collection in Red, White (http://www.poorboysworld.com/natty.htm), & Blue (http://www.poorboysworld.com/natty-blue.htm) This is a special formulation to enhance any color finish with depth, gloss, wetness, and slickness not seen in any other wax. It still has the Natty's easy on and easy off characteristics, as well as the Poorboy's incredible and irresistible scent of Wild Strawberry. We have made only 1000 jars and most of them are in a wide opening jar, so those with large hands, or wanting easy access can now just dig in.
It's even wide enough to keep your applicator stored inside. Some will be coming in our usual jar; both are 8oz. We hope you enjoy it as much as we've enjoyed testing it.

Maybe I have a bad nose! I'll checkout the smell again and let you know.

Pt91, what sealant(s) do you use on the wheels? I know other have suggested using XMT 360 and others but won't the excessive heat melt typical waxes or sealants?

i hv tried several. currently OS and the other new wipe/walk away products work great. OCW isn't as durable but is just as easy to apply after every wash. i hv wheel sealant, but it is just a little tough to remove for me.
