Hey guys, I figured I would post up a couple of recent coating jobs, give my impressions on the recently released Optimum Gloss Coat and also share a detail of an old Saab from a while back.
First up is the Gloss Coat job, a 2015 Mustang Ecoboost owned by Mark, a fellow Autogeek Online member and great guy to do business with. This car initially sent me for a loop- I saw the stance, wheels and overall appearance and assumed it was a GT, it was only when I heard the exhaust that I realized it was a four cylinder. Mark typically takes care of the detailing himself but was a little unsure of the specifics of coating application, so he found me in the detailer listing on this site and sent me an email about Gloss Coat. During the exchange of a few emails Mark sent me close up pics of the paint under sunlight and I was surprised to see no marring, upon arrival I confirmed that the dealership had actually delivered the car with virtually no marring (I was very surprised). Aside from a few stray marks on the trunk lid (polished out with D300 on a polishing pad) the paint was in great shape, a careful wash and chemical decon was all that was needed.
After a thorough eraser wipedown Gloss Coat was applied via microsuede towels on a Car Pro foam applicator. It was approximately 45 degrees out at the time of application and the Gloss Coat went on easily and flashed off surprisingly quick in the relatively low ambient temps. After 2-3 minutes the coating had flashed off and I was able to level any high spots with the applicator and a mf towel. The coating of the body, trunk and door jams plus wheels faces consumed in total about 6-7 ml of product even with a thick application. Even if left to sit for 10+ minutes the high spots were still easily leveled with more product via the microseude towel. The application process was slightly easier than applying CQuartz UK but provided a different look. While both coatings provide great shine and depth, UK provides some darkening and richness while Gloss Coat just seems to add gloss without altering the color of the paint in any way. Gloss Coat also provides very noticeable slickness almost immediately, feeling like a cross between a carnauba and polymer sealant. Overall I was happy with the look of the coating and the ease of application, and I was definitely happy to find out that 6-7 CCs would cover the entire car in a thick coat, those looking to coat a large SUV will likely need a second syringe.

Next up is a 2014 Lexus IS350F in white. The owner washes this car himself and had done a very good job at keeping the paint virtually marring-free during his first four months of ownership. This car received a careful wash and decon, plus a chemical cleaning of the paint via Mothers Pre Wax Cleaner, LC black pads and the Rupes 21. A thorough wipedown with Car Pro Eraser was then performed, followed by the application of CQuartz UK to the body and wheel faces. 3D thick was used to dress the tires.

Last up is a 1993 (IIRC) Saab 900 turbo 5-speed convertible. I’m not sure of the significance of this particular model but I know it had been sitting in the showroom of a local Volvo & Saab dealership for quite some time. The process for this car entailed a thorough wash and decon followed by a ton of taping due to the extensive plastic trim. Once the trim was protected I polished the paint with LC white polishing pads, the Rupes 21 and Meguiars D300. The paint was then protected with Optiseal and the trim and tires were dressed with 3D thick.
