one of my wholesale customers brought in a weather beaten Ferrari 360 from Florida for service work and paint correction. the customer asked if i could bring the muffler back to new looking. seeing if you guys have any tips, my only idea is a scotch bright pad and metal polish.

the paint will clean up nicely. i was asked to clean up the fuel door so the customer could see how the paint will look when i'm done.

I would try something like P21S Polishing Soap you may also have to use 0000 steel wool, along with metal polish, but if the rust is too deep just replace or try to clean up it as good as possible

i hit it with S100 polishing soap and Simichrome polish, it cleans up decent, but could use a little work were the rust had etched the metal.

I've had good luck with Collinite Metal Wax and Blue Magic Metal Polish.

Polish it just like rough paint... It's stainless steel so don't be afraid to lean into it! I will try to post pictures or link later today

You know Todd, I was just searching for that thread you did with the Ferrari exhaust but I couldn't find it.

Its looking good, though like stated you need more aggressiveness to over come that etching with that blue magic, eagle one never dull or even noxon metal polish should help you even have to use machine power

If I were doing it again I would probably use the BLACKFIRE Metal Polishing System however...

Nice work Todd H

Who removed the piece from the vehicle?

What would removal and re-installation run $ on something like that?

One of my clients had installed a full exhaust on his 360 and gave me the stock one.

spent a few hours on the muffler last night, everything had to be done in car. the customer didn't have the time for m to remove the unit to polish.

i started with S100 Polishing Soap, then applied Flitz polish with a Buff and Shine 3 inch wool pad on my Porter Cable. after the first round of polishing i found there were a ton of deep sanding marks. i used some 3m 3000 grit on my porter carble and sanded the entire muffler. then i used the wool pad to clean it up again, i came back and did a second pass with the Buff and Shine yellow 3 inch pad and Flitz. it cleaned up fairly well, there are still large sections of pitting from rust and a few deep scratchs from someone using a sotchbright pad to clean it.

Wow!

What was the Customers reaction?

Sis you charge him by the hour?

You should post that on the local Ferrari Club Forum as well

Outstanding work. Sometimes you can only do so much with what you have to work with. I knew I would fit with a forum that involves discussions about polishing mufflers/exhaust. 3130131302
