2014 SEMA Pictures off my trusty, dusty camera and my cell phone too... (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/ask-expert-featuring-mike-phillips/86589-2014-sema-pictures-off-my-trusty-dusty-camera.html)

Quick comment about SEMA this year. First Dennis Gage was signing autographs in our booth 2 days in a row and he's very well connected to everyone in the hierarchy at SEMA so his information is accurate and he said that all the numbers for measuring SEMA are through the roof high. That is the most vendors, the most participants, the most products, the most attendees etc. etc. etc.

And this was very easy to see by the constant volume of people in our booth and walking around at the show. (see a few pictures below that show crazy traffic).

My personal comment is that I love going to and working at SEMA. I think this is my 10th or 11th year in a row. I've made friends all around the United States and the world from almost 30 years of teaching detailing classes and it's always great to meet these people again, sometimes after not having seen them for decades.

SEMA is a great place to network with current friends and peers in the industry while making new friends and this year was over the top for both.

Working in Autogeek's SEMA booth is a lot of hard work but it's also a lot of fun and I wouldn't trade it for anything....

The first couple of years with Autogeek I took a lot of the pictures of the cars and the show. These last few years Yancy has taken over this duty so I don't end up with too many pictures on my camera to share as most of the time I'm teaching a mini class in our booth or shaking hands and talking shop.

Here's what I do have from my camera and after this post I share what is on my cell phone...

Here's the "Pinnacle Booth", this is the booth I helped to man as well as where our guest VIPs signed autographs.

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/watermark.php?file=86618

Lots of pictures this year with Dennis. Autogeek has been the Title Sponsor for "My Classic Car" for going on 5 years now and the last few years I've had approximately 12 segments which is almost every show. (A season is 13 episodes) In most cases the people in line to see Dennis also recognized me from my work on his show and often times while standing in the line would ask me a detailing question.

And here's the last of the pictures on my iPhone...

About 4 years ago Todd Cooperider started an informal GTG for all the online forum detailers that attend SEMA each year. This is a chance to for everyone to get together and talk shop and make new friends. One of my favorite parts of the SEMA show.

Here's a shot I took as I was leaving for the night.

John D'Agostino - Legendary Car Customizer

This is John D'Agostino, one of the most famous custom car builders in the industry. Check out his work here,

Celebrity Kustoms (http://celebritykustoms.com/)

I've known John for at least 20 years and I'm a huge fan of his work. I signed a copy of my new How to use the Flex XC 3401 VRG Dual Action Orbital Polisher book and also a copy of my "The Complete Guide to a Show Car Shine" how-to book.

I'm hoping sometime in the future to work on one of his project cars. It would be an honor and a pinnacle in my detailing career.

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/watermark.php?file=86667

John had one of his most recent creations on display in the SONAX booth, this is a 1940 Cadillac named Sophia.

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/watermark.php?file=86668

Just to note, at my last Detailing Boot Camp Class we had a custom car from one of John's peers in this industry. It was a Kustom 1956 Dodge Royal Lancer built by Richard Zocchi.

I used this car in my last class to introduce people to machine polishing using what I call the entry level dual action polishers like the Porter Cable, Meguiar's and Griot's Dual Action Polishers. You can see the full write-up from this class here,

Arianny Celeste from Overhaulin

http://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/watermark.php?file=86683

She personally handed me an Overhaulin key chain at the Overhaulin set that I will forever cherish...we looked into each others eyes, I think we had something there.

SEMA was awesome...but it stil boggles my mind at the condition some of the vendors and car owners display their cars in. Swirls galore. Autogeek has forever ruined me, I will never be able to look at paint the same way again!

Thanks for sharing your adventures at SEMA, Mike. It looks like a ton of work and even more fun. How about inviting Arianny Celeste to Detailfest or a Cars & Coffee? A Thursday night project session? I'll buy the pizza! Welcome back to you and the AG crew.
