A friend of mine got this from his job, but he had no idea what it was for and doesn't know how he got it in the first place, so I took it off of his hands.

I only have a flex and this looks like it belongs to PC or other rotary polisher. I'm looking to use this on my drill with my other 3 inch pads as a precision polisher/headlamp restorer applications.

Does anyone know the thread type? Or even better if an adapter is made so I can use this in the chuck of my drill?

EDIT: Probably answered one question, is the thread size 5/16-24? LOL, like it says on the back...

EDIT 2.0: If my lazy butt actually used google before posting I would have found this...

Would that fit in the chuck? Does Lowes or HD sell those?

That BP is for a rotary (5/8"-11)

DA BP's are 5/16-24

I have seen adapters that allow using a rotary BP with a drill, but i can recall seeing one that adapts a 5/16" BP to a drill shank

The 1st line of your post dis make me chuckle

"A friend of mine got this from his job, but he had no idea what it was for and doesn't know how he got it in the first place..."

LOL, Wish I had the same problem. I just know how to use all the tools I own though.

Just got to autozone an get one of those headlight restoration kits and it comes with a drill adapter backplate. Plus pads. The adapter works great with 3m 3 inch pads I use it for RIDS and headlight realration

that is a threaded coupling of some sort........not sure what the thread size is but I doubt it will chuck up in anything even a 1/2 inch drill.

The restoration kit cost +$20, some more than that. This should only cost me the price of an adapter (~$5).

It is, and you correct, I found this at work:

http://i1351.photobucket.com/albums/p781/detroitmuscle9/Mobile%20Uploads/20141020_150631_zpseo3feehr.jpg (http://s1351.photobucket.com/user/detroitmuscle9/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20141020_150631_zpseo3feehr.jpg.html)

And it doesn't fit in my 1/2inch chuck.

Digging through my junk drawer in my tool box, I found this:

http://i1351.photobucket.com/albums/p781/detroitmuscle9/Mobile%20Uploads/20141020_150619_zpsecciew9a.jpg (http://s1351.photobucket.com/user/detroitmuscle9/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20141020_150619_zpsecciew9a.jpg.html)

That's exactly what I need, but needs to be the right thread size/count.

Looks like you are on the right track

Not sure what I was typing earlier...that is obviously a DA BP.

The Measurements are correct, just not the verbiage

"That BP is for a rotary (5/8"-11)

DA BP's are 5/16-24

I have seen adapters that allow using a rotary BP with a drill, but i can recall seeing one that adapts a 5/16" BP to a drill shank"

LOL, I misread your post too, I knew it was 5/16, so I thought you said it was DA BP.

Depending on what my little guy is doing tomorrow, I'll be headed to lowes to hopefully hunt down a cheap adapter. Even I have to shave threads down.

Check automotive stores, usually not the chain stores, but your local friendly parts store, they may have one. or paint shop that sells auto paint and paint polish supplies.

I have one, they're usually very over priced, but ill check. If you happen to visit yours, let me know the product name.

Checked Lowes, Car Quest and the local auto parts stores to no avail.

Did more internet seartching (not much) and only let me to a part that only costs $5 to buy, but $10 dollars to ship.

But, O'Reilys has the 3M headlight restoration kit for $12.99 with a mail in rebate. Just picked that up.

Anyone need a 3" back plate for a DA? LOL
