What is the most money you ever found when detailing a car, and did you return it?

I haven't done an interior job, but if I ever find money, I'll return it. If it's pure trash, like a straw wrapper or something, I'll throw it away. If it's a receipt, I'll return it just in case :p.

Never detailed someones car. But I find it all the time when I..... detail my husbands cloths on laundry day. I found over a hundred dollars one day. I returned it.

Everything I find goes back to the owner; it belongs to them not me.
The smallest amount of cash I found in a car was a penny which I promptly returned.

A body shop owner I know will put a clear plastic bag in his vacuum and give it to you when you pick up your car.
He had a person tell them that they had some kind of ring on the dash/floor and that's when he started to return even the dirt.
Smart move on his part IMO

Thats how I feel. Not sure of the most amout though. I have found 1/5/20 dollar bills and tons of change. I just put it in the ashtray.
And you never know if the owner is setting you up, to see if you are a honest business owner.

I have mobile detailers sometimes do weekly cleans to my car when im too busy to clean it myself and everything thats inside better be there when i get my car returned. In the center console i always have a few bucks for Toll and such and in the glove compartment I always got $20 for emergencys (those times i accidently leave my wallet at home which is rare but still).

Just because the money is there dosn't mean its a jackpot for the detailer. the guys that clean my car even pick up all the lose change between the seats and under the seats and put it in the cup holder for me.

The most a $20 bill.
Yes and no on returnig some change. The first thing that I do is separate valuables and trash. Everything that I find goes in a baggie and is left in the car. There is a certain sound that change makes being sucked up with a vacuum. A lot of guys on here can probably tell you what coin was just sucked up. Anyway a long story to say that I don't break down my vacuum each detail. May have to start.

Yep, you can have an owner testing you, to see if you are honest. All money, even if it is one penney needs to go back to the owner, even if owner will tell you to throw everything away.

I've found $50, jewelry, even some pot.. once I found a card for an escort service.

EVERYTHING goes back, every last damn thing. I put the valuables in one large zip lock and what I perceive to be trash in another.. I do this because what I see as trash maybe something improtant to the next person.

I worked at a full service car wash 20 years ago and was vacuuming and there was a pack of $100's under the mat. The other vacuum guy and I notified the customer that she had left $5000 under the mat. We were concerned about it disappearing down the line and the blame falling on us. As a mobile operator I've found tons of cash in cars. I would never take it and usually the customer lets me know. If they don't I make sure to point it out. Most times they are aware. One time there was a sealed envelope with a stack of cash in it. Not sure how much. Lady said her husband must have left it in there. I always like to point it out just in case it goes missing it's clearly been noted it wasn't me. If I see the change on the floor I put it in the console. There is always a few coins in the vacuum though. I generally empty my vacuum once a week and check the contents. I mainly check it for something like jewelery. Other than a few coins I found a key one time. I showed it to all of the customers as they were all weekly biweekly and no one claimed it. It was for a gm vehicle and I checked the cars too. Another time I found a keychain flash drive. I found a name on the drive which helped me get it back to the owner that day. Usually I hear stuff if it gets sucked up but not always. Other money I found were occassional bills. One lady lost a wallet and I found it she was very happy. A few times I find bank bags with money for customers that own stores. One Mercedes upon opening the trunk was loaded with a coin collection.

I suck up some coins, but most I put in the console.

I probably have had about $20 go through my vac over the years! :)

I go through the car before vacuuming and pick up any money, receipts, jewelery, etc. Then everything is put in a plastic bag. I dont even go through the center console or passenger compartment unless the customer wants those areas cleaned.
