I have been wanting to try this coating for a long time now, but with the price at $170.00, I didn't want to be the first person to try it out. Recently, AutoGeek had a sale for Buy One, Get One Free on them, putting the cost per kit at $85.00, which was reasonable, but still with no results, hard to bite the bullet. Well, yesterday, Autogeek put Mega Trend on sale for the low(now normal) price of $69.99 for the kit.

I was waiting to catch one of AutoGeek's amazing flash sales to order a bunch of supplies, so I added Mega Trend to my cart.

Jump forward to this afternoon, I am finalizing my shopping cart, and am contacted by a company about wanting me to test Mega Trend. I agreed, to say the least.

I then had to delete it out of my shopping cart, and refill my cart to get it back over the $150 free shipping minimum(I don't know if you can tell, but I like to minimize cost :) )

I should get Mega Trend on Monday, but I won't be able to test it for a few weeks due to travel, but I am very excited to have been selected for the review, and I hope it is as good as I want it to be.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but I'm pretty excited right now.

If you are interested in purchasing Mega Trend while it is on sale, here is the link

product looks interesting I'll be checking out your update here. $169's just insane, even at $69 it's still not cheap.

I'm pretty set on GTechniq, but still interested in seeing how it performs.

Sorry for the delay, but I finally got time to apply the coating. I chose my car to do the application, but to only do 1/2 of the car. The other half will be used in a separate thread for a comparison against CQuartz UK Edition.

I'd like to be very inclusive with this review since there is no information on Mega Trend, anywhere, so I'd like to give as much info as possible, and shed light on this new(ish) product.

Upon arrival, I opened the box to reveal a nice, sturdy display box, made out of 1/4" thick cardboard, with magnets in the side to keep the lid shut, but easy to open, I really liked that. I opened the box, and I found a nicely laid out display of the Mega Trend kit. What is included in the kit?

1 50mL bottle of Mega Trend
1 "Special cotton applicator sponge"
1 4oz bottle of "Eraser"
3 16"x16" 360gsm blue Nanoskin microfiber towels
1 Autoscrub sponge, feels like a fine grade.

The items were all inlaid in the box in cut out dense foam, which is nice, but most of the items didn't fit quite right in the foam, which, for a $170 item, it would be nice to see the product actually fit in there, but that's a very small detail that doesn't affect the use of the product.

About each product in the kit

Towels: Short nap, tags sewn in ;/ , good quality

Autoscrub sponge: Great quality, I've got 3 others, and love them all. 2"x4"

Eraser: Nothing like CarPro Eraser, ZERO odor, if I could smell anything, it might smell like very mild hand soap. Good spray bottle, Not a super fine mist, but consistant, medium angle spray nozzle with spray lock for transport.

Mega Trend: Glass bottle, shorter and fatter than CQUK, cheap looking, but effective restrictor on neck of bottle to allow a drop at a time to come out. Some product had dried around the lid, which took a little bit to clean off to make sure I wasn't putting glass crystals on to the paint. The smell was absolutely horrible, almost like a bottle of straight ammonia. If you do not have good ventilation, I suggest NOT using it, unless you have a protective mask.

On to the directions, basically, it says:

1. Spray on Eraser, and use it as lube for the Autoscrub sponge, then wipe dry using a clean, dry MF towel.

2.Apply a few drops of Mega Trend to the "special foamed cotton applicator", and wipe on panel, work in a small area.

3. Allow to cure for 1 minute.

4. Using clean, dry MF towel, buff paint until shiny.

5. Allow to cure for 24 hours before exposing to water, DO NOT APPLY IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT.

On to application, for about 1/2sqft, I tried the above method, and realized the applicator was complete crap, It streaked VERY badly, and just didn't apply smooth at all, and was very awkward to hold, so I tossed it in the garbage, and grabbed old trusty, my Carpro Foam applicator, and 4" suede towels. Using that, application was pretty simple.

I chose to work with 1'x1' sections.

Using a few different methods around the car, I found a sweet spot by the time I finished that gave me a nice, smooth finish, no streaks, with minimal effort.

My suggestion for application would be as follows:

1: Wash car, decontaminate using included Autoscrub, and Nanoskin Glide as lube.

2: Polish car to desired level.

3: Spray Nanoskin Eraser on paint, 1 spray per 18x18" area.

4: Wipe off using dry, clean MF towel until all Eraser is gone.

5: Using CarPro or like coating applicator, and 4x4" suede applicator cover, apply 5 drops, or 1-2 thin lines of Mega Trend to suede.

6: Apply Mega Trend using a side to side, then overlapping up and down motion, overlapping 25% on each pass.

7: Continue side to side motion with light pressure until it glides smoothly across the surface(approx 1-2 minutes)

8: Allow to cure for 24 hours before exposing to water.

If you choose to follow their instructions, be ready for the towel to stay where you start buffing it.

Mega Trend applies, and is tacky, almost like, but not quite, if you apply too much CQUK, or wait too long to buff CQUK off.

The coating has now had a full 24 hours to cure in a heated garage at 65*, and has not been exposed to any moisture. It has gradually gotten smoother throughout the curing process, and fully cured, has the smoothness, and feel of bare, polished paint, no increased smoothness whatsoever. Looks are a bit deeper than the pare paint, and minor imprefections were filled, which was nice.

Here is a final cured picture, I'll get sun pictures tomorrow once the sun comes out.

Bare paint on the left, Mega Trend on the right.

I can't wait to see how it reacts to water, and I'll post those pictures/ videos tomorrow as well.

Hopefully this has shed some light on this product, and only time will tell if it is a worthwhile product.

On a side note, Nanoskin Customer service is HORRIBLE!
I emailed them, messaged them through their site, and called the number on their site, with no response for 3 weeks. I was asking for tips, and more details on application, whether or not to top it, What to top it with, application temps, Whether it could be used on glass, just anything I could use in this review, and for application of Mega Trend. I got no response until I messaged one of their reps on Facebook, and when I told him why I wanted someone from Nanoskin to respond, his response was "Can't the company you bought it from give you that info?" That sentence will live with me forever, and I will slowly be switching away from Nanoskin on everything I can, because I am so upset about their CS. Next time you order from Autogeek, and you ask a question, and get a response, know that AGO will, and has gone above and beyond other companies to help each and every customer resolve any issue, and help them in any way possible.

Thanks for being honest in your review. I will buy second-rate products from a company whose customer service is great, but I won't buy excelllent products if the company's CS is rediculous.

Just got past the 24 hour point, and I went out and got my fine mist spray bottle out, and sprayed the hood down. I was VERY surprised at the results. The Mega Trend's beading and sheeting were nothing short of spectacular! This completely caught me off guard, especially considering what I was comparing it against.

As the coating has had time to cure some more, The properties of Mega Trend continue to change, it is now very slick, and beads and sheets beautifully! I was able to get the hose out today and actually get good pictures, and a good video. I am VERY impressed with this coating, just really wish the customer service was better from Nanoskin.

In this video, CQuartz UK is on the left side of the car, and Mega Trend is on the right, same as the above pictures.

And some beading shots.

Just an update, Mega Trend continued to get slicker and slicker over the 3 days after applying. It is now even slicker than CQUK, and it also looks better as well. The depth is better, and it is definitely darker in appearance than CQUK. It is definitely a winner in my book, at least for now.

I wonder why some coatings that are clear in the container, make the paint "appear" darker

I know a convertible fabric top will look darker when it is wet

Is there a scientific explanation, other than, less light is being reflected by the paints surface?

This seems contrary to the CQuartz video where the paint looks darkened, but the Glossmeter numbers go up

Strange phenomenon

Maybe this understandable, but still scientific explanation from.what seems to be a reliable source; offers some guidance:

Darker when wet › Bernie's Basics (ABC Science) (http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2010/11/11/3063513.htm)

I do wonder if the darkening effect is actually a good thing, since the surface is actually less reflective?
