3" finishing discs - too small for a complete car?

Hi,

I ordered 'unigrit 3000 foam finishing discs' instead of the 6" (was not thinking).
Are these too small for a complete car (90' convertible mustang)?

Should I just purchase single of 3M Trizact 6 Inch 3000 Grit Performance Sanding Disc? If not, how many discs will I need?

Are all 3000grit 6" sanding discs made out of foam and not paper?

Based on experience, I would start with the 1500 unigrit, then use the 3000. You will be there all day using the 3000 as a start-off, and will need more than one box. If you order the 1500, you may be able to do the whole vehicle, then use the 3000.

Why are you sanding with 1500 by hand?

There is a pretty good AMMO NYC video on you tube featuring Jason Rose and Kevin Brown. It is worth watching. Mike P also has great info on this Forum on wet/damp sanding

I have only worked on my own truck and the test panels down at Meguiar's, but I can't imagine sanding out an entire car by hand

I think you will need another box. What model are you sanding?

3 or 4 disks will do about one panel, approximately, based off my experience w/ 3" unigrit disks.

I've known people to completel sand down cars using nothing but 3" pads... just takes a lot longer.

For 6" 3M Trizact I'd plan on one disc per panel. You might get more but it just depends on other factors.

The 3" is GREAT for sanding thin panel and getting close to edges and raised body lines.

Also get some 3M 1/4" Blue Vinyl Tape. A real life saver.
