Tire Cleaning Question

Hey guys,

Today I noticed the tires on my truck are getting that brown look to them. I'm going to detail the truck this week on my break from school and I was wondering what would you guys suggest I use? This needs to be something I can pick up at a local autoparts store due to the fact that I don't have time to wait for shipping from AG. Thank you.

All purpose cleaner such as zep citrus apc or purple power both can be found at lowes or home depot, though if you want a all in one kind of product Meguiar's/Hot Rims all wheel cleaner will clean both tires, and wheels

Although I think the original Westley's Bleche-White was so much better, the above is the best you can get for dedicated tire cleaners. LATA at the Dollar store also works well, but Zep 505 is that fire. You can grab that at Lowe's/Home Depot.

I'll second the zep 505 and LA's totally awesome. Cleans as well as my OPC but waayy cheaper

Plus 1 that, Cdot, on the original Westley's. I discovered it was great for removing contamination and oxidation off of my white single-stage paint on my 79 z-28. I found out by hitting the paint accidentaly with overspray from the Westley's bottle. It worked so well that I scrubbed the whole car with a bottle's worth. It actually looked a lot better afterwards.

Like stated above, LA's totally awesome works great. I use Zep Industrial Purple Degreaser, it's some gnarly stuff and smells quite a bit harsher than zep 505, but for really nasty tires, it's worth it.

The rims on my truck are chrome and I want to make sure those don't get damaged. Are LATA and ZEP 505 safe on chrome?

You could use just about anything on chrome. Some even choose to use oven cleaner on chrome with great results. Never Dull is a OTC product that works great on chrome. So many choices for chrome. Pick up a pbmg product you've never tried, and let us know, if you have the time.
Those foam cones built to attach to a drill speed things up quiet a bit too. I assume you have 20" rims? You need all the time saving devices you can get.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what I'll pick up yet because I'm not sure what I'll find. What does pbmg stand for? I'm still learning a lot from this forum. The rims are stock 18" from a Silverado. Will polishing with a foam drill attachment give me better results than polishing by hand?

PBMG stands for Palm Beach Motoring Group. PBMG owns AG. The drill attachment seems unnecessary, just like the Speed Master wheel brush, until you actually use it and you find out it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. It saves you from expending a lot of elbow grease, and cleaning wheels can take a toll on certain muscle groups because wheels are so low to the ground.

By the way, the foam cones can reach more areas than your fingers can, and the cone has the ability to squeeze and conform into tight spaces while spinning quickly. For example, the cone can reach into lug nut recess holes, or areas where hard lines converge (tight spaces).
