Hey guys, so the first Show N' Shine I've had time for on here since joining, but wanted share a little of my work. Had a customer who purchased this black BMW at an auction a few months back and decided that it was time to get it back to looking the way it was supposed to and then properly protected. It wasn't crazy bad, but obvious that it had seen its share of automatic car washes. The paint however was jet black and not exactly the easiest to work with. A few pictures when the car showed up (it was raining, so not exactly the best environment to showcase the paint, but I can't control that up here in Seattle) :)

Passenger side front bumper had a decent little scrape:

Passenger side rear bumper had also been hit - a lot of paint transfer here:

After washing with a 2 bucket method and decontaminating with a Nanoskin Autoscrub sponge, I pulled it into the garage to dry it off and see exactly what I was up against

Side Panel (they all looked the same, so I'll spare you all the pics)

Did a couple test spots to see what process I wanted to go at it with. I went with M105 and a Meguiars 5" MF cutting pad using my Rupes 21 polisher followed by M205 on a Meguiars black finishing pad using my PC. Followed this up with an IPA wipe down before applying my second to last Opti-Coat 2.0:(

And the afters, (sorry, no sun shots as it was raining until it got dark that night) Took a few with the Brinkman to show the lack of swirls though :xyxthumbs:

Great job on your first show and shine! The black paint looks very deep and glossy.

That's a nice looking BMW with very nice wheels.

Wow! Great job Jarred! Smart looking BMW - the lack of chrome makes it IMO. Haha, looks like someone airbrushed some mountain bikes on the roof! Love the reflection on the front bumper. :dblthumb2:

Nice work!

That's what it's all about. Do some testing, dial in a process that works and then duplicate the process to the rest of the car.

What to say, looks like you did your 'homework' very well before adding your first showing thread, a pleasure to read and follow the write-up. The results are great, and pictures speaks for themselves.

Wish you all the best and will be looking forward to see more of what you're doing.

Let me ask you, I also use the 5" MF cutting discs with Rupes 21, do you have the 6" as well? I have so many 5" cutting discs but keep imagining the 6" could be an option since Meg's MF spin so fine with the Rupes. Let me know your (also, anybody's) thoughts about the 6" MF discs on the Rupes 21.

Do you mind sharing approximately how many passes you needed to cut with M105 and MF disc on this paint? What was your preferred speed?

Thanks for sharing,

Kind Regards.

Thanks for all the compliments guys, it was a fun car to work and turn around.

Yeah when I first saw it and it had the front grill Pasti-Dipped I was a little unsure, but it grew on me over the hours of looking at it - that reflection shot of the bikes was one of my favorites.

Thanks Mike, means a lot coming from you.

Yes, I've got the 6" too, but I rarely ever use it. I've did the Kevin Brown washer modification so it spins more freely under load, and I hate switching the backing plates trying to line that washer up right, plus I just prefer doing and correcting work with a 5" pad and my Rupes is almost only used for correcting.

As for the passes, it was probably 3-4 overlapping passes with decent pressure and then a couple more with lighter pressure and quicker arm speed. When correcting with the Rupes I'm usually between 4-5 on the speed, so that's probably what I was using here too.

Hope that helps!

Sure that helps!, I appreciate your opinions. I like the Rupes + MF for cutting, but I'm still developing the proper way to work it. Your feedback gave me precious insights towards improving what I'm already doing.

This is what this forum is all about,

Thanks 'a bunch!', count on me as well.

Kind Regards.
