I have a 2004 ford Mustang dark shadow gray and I removed the pinstripe. The pinstripe left a stain, and also there is some clear coat damage from before and what I believe is oxidation, I'm not sure. I'm having some trouble uploading pictures right now though. Kinda hard to explain without the pictures.

Sounds like the paint under the pinstripe has not changed with the rest of the paint from the sun.

Yeah, some parts look like the original color and others have a yellow strip from the actual pinstripe that became part of the paint. Would a high abrasive compound be able to remove the defect ? and then follow thru with a clear coat safe polish. Also I'm using a ptfe acrylic sealant which I believe is from the gem orbital products. im not sure if I'm applying it correctly or maybe I'm not removing it correctly. If I do a big section, with 4 -6 passes, once it has dried to a haze and I remove the residue, it leaves a bunch of foggy spots...the products that I have, do not have any labels or instructions, just a name like base coat or base coat plus. yeah that's ghosting. its possible you could remove it by sanding lightly and cutting the clear down below where the color has been "absorbed". just be careful not to go too far, of course, or you could leave too little to work with after compounding/polishing. would like to hear how this works out...

If it were me, I would try a med/light polish, like Meg's M205 or Menz SF4000 or 4500, see if it does anything.

Hey everyone, haven't posted or updated this in a while. Here is a picture of the passenger door. I used m105 with meguiars 5" mf cutting pad, then meguiars cleaner wax with their 3" yellow polishing pad. Still some oxidation around the door handle tho, I need to go back and finish it

And the right quarter panel had clear coat failure. I used m105 with mf cutting pad.

I haven't tried to get rid of the ghosting yet, but I will soon.

Maybe you're NOT doing anything wrong, I think the car isn't giving you much to work with and you're doing the best you can with what you have.
