Tires-wheels first / then wheel wells, rinse
then doorjambs / trunk drain channel, rinse
then the hood, roof and trunk lid, rinse
left side, rinse
right side, rinse
front end rinse
rear end, rinse
then I re-rinse the whole car
Use the 'flooding' technique to minimize the amount of water I need to blot off the paint.

Fold the towed into a square and instead of wiping it across the surface which can cause scratches and swirls, lay the towel over the water beads and let it soak the water into the towel, then lift the towel off and lay it down on the next section etc. If you have a good coat of wax on the car you can actually use the hose to 'dry' the car with water, making drying with a towel much easier.

There are several videos on how to do this, I'll try to find one.
