Okay, so I am sure, like myself, lots of people were curious about Optimums new coating, Gloss Coat. I’ve been wanting to coat my car more and more, so I figured why not try what Optimum has put out with their new replacement for Opti Coat

Manufacturers Description:
Semi-permanent paint protection made easy!

Optimum Gloss-Coat is a high-tech polymer system that forms an extra layer of clear coat over painted surfaces, wheels, plastic trim, bumpers, aluminum, and chrome. Formulated by award-winning Dr. David Ghodoussi, Optimum Gloss-Coat is designed to provide unsurpassed resistance to etching caused by harsh detergents, and swirl marks that are often inflicted during the wash process. Surfaces that are coated with Optimum Gloss-Coat will be protected for up to two years.

Optimum Gloss-Coat is much like the clear coat that already exists on your vehicle, except it forms a shell of protection that is glossier, slicker, and less prone to wash-induced swirl marks and marring. Optimum Gloss-Coat creates a self cleaning finish that is considerably easier to clean and maintain compared to conventional waxes and sealants. Carnauba-wax lovers rejoice – Optimum formulated Gloss-Coat so you can top it with your favorite non-abrasive finishing wax.

Optimum Gloss-Coat can be applied to all exterior surfaces. It is not recommended for glass since improper application can affect visibility. For other exterior surfaces, Optimum Gloss-Coat is a highly effective, transparent protective coating.

Optimum Gloss-Coat can be applied to:
• Painted surfaces
• Wheels
• Plastic trim
• Bumpers
• Aluminum & chrome surfaces

Optimum Gloss-Coat is an additional barrier between the elements and your vehicle's paint. The paint will retain its color and contaminants will be blocked out to keep the paint smooth and clean. Unlike waxes and paint sealants that require frequent reapplication, Optimum Gloss-Coat provides constant, unyielding protection for up to two years!

Okay so won’t put you all to sleep with my prep, its was your typical decon with AF Iron Out, Mothers Clay, Various APC’s brushes, pads and my Griots, etc….prpep how you desire.

Observations:
Okay so as for the application. First, the product is thicker than OC and spreads a lot farther too. If you were worried about 10cc covering your car don’t. It will cover your car, obviously depending on its size. For my Corolla, I was able to coat all the paint, trim, all the glass, and I still had about 1-2cc left over. During application, much like OC it melts into the paint, however Gloss Coat its way easier to see where you applied. I applied it heavy in some areas, to see if buffing off would be a pain, and it was not, so if you have high spots and over apply, if you remove them in a 5 min window you should be fine. I applied OGC CarPro style, foam applicator block wrapped in suede microfibers. I chose to remove it from the its packaging and put it in a spray bottle. I did this with OC as well, I like spraying onto the applicator and paint, for me its easier….

Now, after application, it is much slicker to the touch after application than OC. To note as well, it felt even slicker today(a day after applying) then it did yesterday. I am sure it has something to do with it curing.

Okay, now to some glamour shots. Wasn't the sunniest day today so sorry, but take a look, can you sat Gloss???

So like I said not the sunniest day today, but wow, pictures dont do it justice. Its really really glossy.

Now, to be fair, $60 for 10cc is kind of ridiculous. When you can get CQ, or 22ple,, Pinnacle, DP or Exo for cheaper, and more product, its a no brainer. I have used CQUK, OC, DP, and the application is easier than CQUK, and just as easy as DP. DP is a more glassy look, this is glossy. I can not compare this to CQUK 2014, I haven't used that yet.

So end result, listen if it meets its claims of 2 years excellent. Will I polish it off before then, probably, but I promise in an effort for the forum, I will not top this, or do anything crazy, I’ll try and do an good test of longevity for those curious.

So, should you try it? Yes! is there other products out there that do the same thing, for cheaper and more product? Yes! Does that mean OGC sucks? NO, they should give maybe 15cc, for those with bigger cars and 4x4’s…..but they do what they do over there at Optimum.

Anyway ask any questions you have,, hope you enjoyed. I’ll leave more thorough reviews to guys like Claude and more experienced detailers….

Nice Review and thanks for pledging not to top it

When you say it is "thicker", do you mean the consistency of the liquid or are you saying you think it builds a thicker layer of product in the surface of the paint?

the consistency of it is thicker, to my eye. Not sure about how thick the layer is on the paint, didnt take any measurements. Sorry :(

None of the PTG any of us have are accurate down to 2 microns, so I wasn't expecting a measurement

FWIW, you really can see it go on and "melt" in as you apply, so you can see a heavy payload being put on the paint, how much of its stays who knows...

Sun or no sun in those pics .. car looks awesome. Wicked glossy!

It's a shame Optimum canned 2.0 but this looks like a fantastic coating.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the words! Hopefully gloss coat is worthy to replace it in people's eyes.

I really don't get the price backlash on this...all over the AG store are LSP's with much bigger pricetags, but Gloss-Coat gets the hate. I don't see any hate for a jar of Fuzion at $195 or a bottle of PBL at $130.

But if you can do the same number of cars with 10cc of Glosscoat, as you did with 2.0, then what's the issue?

Pretty sure the comment was meant to compare products in the same category on a cost per application basis

The two products you mentioned both have multiple applications per jar/bottle

I have done 7 cars with a sample pot of Fuzion that was $50...so about $7 per application

You could expand and dilute your argument that the longevity of the GC makes up for the cost per application differential, but that too is weak when compared to the multiple applications in a 30mL bottle of something like CQuartz

Comments based solely on my personal experience...I may be wrong
