Hi all

Wanted to get the opinion of some pros on here. I recently bought a cheap daily and all is well except that the front bumper is littered with neglected bird poop etchings and stone chips. From the severity of it, the previous owner didn't pay it much attention.

the dilemma that I have is that although some spots have gone down to the base coat. The majority of the rest is in the clearcoat only ( when bumper is wet, 90% of marks disappear).

As a first step I used meguiars ultimate compound with a medium grade foam pad on speed 4. It came out fantastic, but after a wipedown with isopropyl alcohol, the marks returned.. Pretty much indicating that I was just filling them rather than levelling them.

Any tips on what to do next? I understand I probly won't get a perfect finish ever but id like to avoid sanding if possible. Any advice on what step to take next is appreciated.

PS car is a mitsubishi colt, I also have a few detailing stores nearby so I can get a hold of most detailing brands/products readily.

:welcome: To Autogeek Online! :props:

Urethane fascias take a beating and it's clear that yours has seen its fair share of environmental attacked from the ground and the air. That said, you do have a few options.

Full refinishing at a professional paint shop
Touch up paint using those little bottles of color matching paint or a product such as Dr Color Chip. (http://www.autogeek.net/dr-colorchip-paint-chip-repair.html)

You'd be surprised how greatly improved it's appearance can be by taking your time filling in those chips and like defects. I've filled similar defects, lightly sanded and paint that's proud then polishing it removed sanding marks. Adding something like 3M Clear Bra really evens things out and adds a layer of protection that's nearly impenetrable.

Thanks for the warm welcome and tips :)

I have already gone through the color matched paint chip filling process and it is quite tedious, I worked out a method that requires no sanding as I chemically level the excess touch up.

However on the bumper id like to avoid it if I can. Do you think a microfibre or hard foam cutting pad with menzerna 500 would do the trick?
