I'm a little confused about the different purposes of leather conditioners and leather coating protectors. If most leather is coated and doesn't need a normal conditioning, why do the number of conditioners on the market outnumber coating protectors 10 to 1?

I've got a Focus ST with Recaro seats that are coated and I've been using gtechniq leather guard. Is a conditioner doing any benefit to my seats? Or is the gteq enough to sustain them?

It is possible to condition leather which is coated - conditioning doesn't necessarily mean 'feeding'. I would not necessarily see the point of putting oils into coated leather but I do know that some such leather can absorb the oils (what good it does, I do not know). Some conditioners will be wax containing, like wax on paint, it is a surface effect.

Basically I would say that conditioners are easy things to make and people buy them, so why would brands not sell them?
